  • 2. WHY RESEARCH NETWORK ?  RESEARCH PROGRESS, PROVIDES THE IDENTIFICATION BUILDING AND BLOCKS AMPLIFICATION FOR OF INNOVATIVE IDEAS.  SHARING RESEARCH FINDINGS HELPS COOPERATIVES TO BECOME SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS ENTERPRISES.  RESEARCH NETWORKS PROVIDE A COMMON PLATFORM TO COOPERATIVE RESEARCHERS/ ACADEMICIANS/ SCHOLARS THROUGH WHICH TO SHARE THEIR FINDINGS.  HELP ORGANISE VOLUMINOUS AND THEREBY UNMANAGEABLE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION THROUGH COLLATION AND ANALYSIS TO FILTER FOR RELEVANT CRITICAL RESULTS.  BRING INTO FOCUS IMPORTANT INFORMATION/ RESEARCH FINDINGS AND CRITERIA FOR DEVELOPMENT OF SUCCESSFUL COOPERATIVE BUSINESS MODELS.

STATUS OF COOP- RESEARCH IN ASIA-PACIFIC  COOPERATIVE RESEARCHES CONDUCTED UNIVERSITIES, COOP/GOVT & PRIVATE IN INSTITUTES AND COOPERATIVE ORGANIZATIONS.  RESEARCH ISOLATED AND SPORADIC IN EACH COUNTRY AND IN THE REGION.  COLLABORATION BETWEEN COOP. ORGANIZATIONS AND RESEARCHERS VERY WEAK.  IN SOME COUNTRIES SUCH AS INDIA, JAPAN & KOREA , EFFORTS IN RESEARCHERS THE PAST MADE TO COORDINATE BUT FOCUS HAD BEEN MOSTLY DOMESTIC AND THERE IS LITTLE EXCHANGE AMONG THEMSELVES.

STATUS IN INDIA  IN INDIA, RESEARCH IS BEING UNDERTAKEN AT THE INDIVIDUAL AND INSTITUTIONAL LEVELS.  THE INDIAN SOCIETY FOR STUDIES IN COOPERATION REGISTERED IN 1981 HAS BEEN PROMOTING STUDY IN COOPERATIVES.  THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR COOPERATIVE TRAINING (NCCT) HAS BEEN OFFERING COOPERATIVE TRAINING PROGRAMMES AND ALSO UNDERTAKING RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY PROJECTS.  BANKERS (BIRD), INSTITUTE LUCKNOW OF ESTABLISHED RURAL BY DEVELOPMENT NABARD PROVIDES TRAINING, RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY SERVICES IN THE FIELD OF AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT BANKING IN INDIA.
  • 5. CONTINUED…  TOPIC (TRAINING OF PERSONNEL IN COOPERATIVE) INSTITUTE WAS ESTABLISHED BY NCDC (NATIONAL COOP. DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION) COOPERATIVES IN ORGANIZATIONAL ENABLING OBJECTIVES TO ASSIST THEM TO THROUGH THE ACHIEVE SUITABLE TRAINING AND RESEARCH.  THE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL BANKING (CAB), PUNE, UNDER THE RESERVE BANK OF INDIA OFFERS TRAINING & RESEARCH PROGRAMMES APART FROM IRMA ETC.  UNIVERSITY OF MYSORE, KALINGA INSTITUTE OF RURAL MANAGEMENT, ODISHA ETC. ARE SOME OF THE INSTITUTIONS WHERE RESEARCH IS BEING UNDERTAKEN.

STATUS IN JAPAN  THE JAPAN SOCIETY FOR CO-OPERATIVE STUDIES (JSCS) WAS SET UP IN 1981.  CO-OP PRACTITIONERS INTERESTED IN RESEARCH HAVE REGULAR EXCHANGES OF IDEAS AND EXPERIENCES.  THE INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS OF THE JSCS STAND AT 600 WHILE THE INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERS ARE 40.  CO-OPERATIVE RESEARCH INSTITUTES ARE SET UP BY SECTORAL ORGANIZATIONS TO PROMOTE RESEARCH FOCUSING ON THE SECTOR.

CONTINUED…. 1) AGRICULTURE: JAPAN-CO-OPERATIVE CENTRAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE, JA 2) CONSUMER: DISTRIBUTION INSTITUTE CONSUMER CO-OPERATIVE INSTITUTE OF JAPAN (CCIJ) 3) WORKERS: CO-OPERATIVE RESEARCH INSTITUTES 4) BANKING: NORIN-CHUKIN RESEARCH INSTITUTES, SHINKIN ECONOMIC RESEARCH INSTITUTE 5) INSURANCE: JA KYOSAI RESEARCH INSTITUTES, ZENROSAI ASSOCIATION THE INTERNATIONAL PROMINENT IN JAPAN EXCHANGE EXCEPT HAS FOR BEEN THE NOT CCIJ SO WHICH MAINTAINS REGULAR CONTACT WITH THE INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH COMMUNITY AND PIONEERED IN CREATING THE ICA ASIA PACIFIC RESEARCH NETWORK SINCE THE 1980s.

STATUS IN MALAYSIA  IN MALAYSIA, CCM (COOPERATIVE COLLEGE OF MALAYSIA) IS ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN UNDERTAKING RESEARCH ON ISSUES PERTAINING TO THE COOPERATIVE MOVEMENT IN MALAYSIA.  ANNUALLY 4-5 RESEARCH PROJECTS HAVE BEEN UNDERTAKEN BY THE CCM GROUP OF RESEARCHERS OR JOINTLY WITH UNIVERSITY LECTURERS.  A NUMBER OF PUBLICATIONS HAVE BEEN PRODUCED AND CIRCULATED TO THE CO-OPERATIVES AT THE LOCAL LEVEL SUCH AS; MALAYSIAN JOURNAL OF CO-OPERATIVE STUDIES, RESEARCH MONOGRAPHS, HANDBOOKS, CASE STUDY HANDBOOK, ETC.

STATUS IN THAILAND  IN 2004, THE DEVELOPMENT UNIVERSITY BOARD OF JOINED FOR NATIONAL HANDS COOPERATIVE WITH CONDUCTING KASETSART COOPERATIVE RESEARCH.  COOPERATIVE AUDITING DEPARTMENT AND THE COOPERATIVE LEAGUE OF THAILAND (CLT) PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN THE AREA OF COOPERATIVE RESEARCH IN THAILAND.  UNIVERSITIES IN UNIVERSITY AND THAILAND SUCH CHANDRAKASEM AS MAEJO RAJABHAT UNIVERSITY HAVE COOPERATIVE PROGRAMS THAT ARE ALSO SUBSTANTIALLY CONTRIBUTING TO COOPERATIVE RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT IN THAILAND.

ICA COMMITTEE ON CO-OPERATIVE RESEARCH FOR ASIA- PACIFIC  RESEARCH CONFERENCES ARE CONDUCTED BY THE RESEARCH COMMITTEE ONCE IN TWO YEARS, TO COINCIDE WITH THE REGIONAL ASSEMBLIES.  REGIONAL RESEARCH SEMINARS ARE ALSO CONDUCTED EVERY ALTERNATE YEAR FROM THE YEAR 2009.  HAS ALMOST 100 MEMBERS OF THE RESEARCH GROUP AND ALSO COUNTRIES. 20-25 FROM THE ICA-AP MEMBER

RESEARCH CONFERENCES & SEMINARS 1st CONFERENCE - 2000 IN SINGAPORE 2nd CONFERENCE - 2003 IN CEBU, PHILIPPINES 3rd CONFERENCE - 2004 IN CHIANG MAI, THAILAND 4th CONFERENCE - 2006 IN COLOMBO, SRILANKA 5th CONFERENCE - 2008 IN HANOI, VIETNAM 1st SEMINAR - 2009 IN GURGAON, INDIA 6th CONFERENCE - 2nd SEMINAR 7th CONFERENCE - 3rd SEMINAR - 2010 IN BEIJING, CHINA 2011 IN ODISHA, INDIA 2012 IN KOBE, JAPAN TO BE HELD IN MYSORE, INDIA ON 29TH -30TH NOVEMBER, 2013
  • 12. LIMITATIONS  LACK OF FUNDSNo fund is provided by any Cooperative or ICA-AP or ICA. No Registration fee from the Researchers. Funds for organising the Conference as well as Scholarship to the Researchers comes from the organisation represented by the Chairman/Vice-chairman of the committee i.e. IFFCO & JCCU.  LANGUAGE BARRIER Most of the Research Work is done by Researchers regionally in their Native Languages i.e. Japanese, Chinese, Korean etc. (India has 36 languages)  RESEARCH IS NOT A REGULAR ACTIVITY  PROMOTION OF RESEARCH WORK IS NOT DONE BY UNIVERSITY /INSTITUTIONS.

FUTURE VISION OF RESEARCH COMMITTEE  TO ORGANIZE MORE FREQUENT RESEARCH CONFERENCES AND SEMINARS SO THAT THE RESEARCH WORK GET MORE EXPOSURE.  RESEARCH COMMITTEE HAS STARTED AN E- NEWS WHERE RESEARCHERS CAN WRITE ABOUT THEIR RESEARCH WORK & FINDINGS.  A DATA BANK OF CO-OPERATIVE RESEARCH ACTIVITIES AND RESEARCHERS WILL BE CREATED AND MORE RESEARCHERS BROUGHT INTO THE NETWORK.  A SOCIAL NETWORKING WEBSITE IS PLANNED TO BE CREATED TO ALLOW RESEARCHERS TO INTEREACT AND BE BETTER INFORMED.
