    • EDLD 5352 Instructional Leadership: The Technology LinkWeek 4 Assignment, Part 2: Professional Development PlanningUsing the campus and district improvement plans, and any suggested technologyimprovements, develop professional development activities that include the following:• Reference analysis and lessons learned about the technology needs from the Week 3 report.• Addresses professional development designed to improve the gathering, analysis and use of data from a variety of sources.• Includes professional development to improve decision making in the integration of technology with instructional and organizational leadership. When deciding on appropriate topics for staff development, I reviewed the last three years ofGarland High School’s STaR Chart results and information from the interviews that I conducted.Although our school has been doing an overall good job in regards to technology improvement, there were some areas that needed to still get better. One of these areas included givingteachers time to use the technology that was being introduced. I think that teachers need to begiven time after staff development training so that they can create lessons that are both creativeand innovative for our 21st century learners. Teachers also noted that it must be relevant andengaging so that more teachers are on board with using technology in the classroom.Professional Development activities would include the following: • Review the STaR Chart, AEIS and AYP data- Teachers need to be aware how our campus scored on the STaR Chart because they are the ones that score it that way. In order to advance to a high level, the district has to be aware of what each campus needs so that achievement is impacted positively.Page 10 – Revised October 2009
    • EDLD 5352 Instructional Leadership: The Technology Link • Staff development will be provided to all staff to further the effective use of technology in the classroom. Providers of staff development include in-house staff, Regional Service Centers, local colleges and universities, and professional organizations. • Instructional Technologist will provide training using classroom technology (SMART Board, document cameras, etc.) and time will be built in for teachers to use it themselves.Page 11 – Revised October 2009

This evaluation will also look atPage 12 – Revised October 2009
    • EDLD 5352 Instructional Leadership: The Technology Linkhow well and how often technology is being used at the campus levels. The committee willmake recommendations of updates needed to the Technology Plan. The evaluation process will include the following assessments:Informal interviews of staff from each of the campuses. These will be used by the SBDMcommittee in order to make plans for the future. These plans would include suggestions and/orconcerns by the staff.Campus Technologists will monitor and report on progress and needs of each campus. They will also report on the ability of teachers to use technology in classrooms.Campus administrators will provide lesson plans, student projects, teacher interviews, andparental report that show that the classroom teacher is using technology in the classroom. All staff will be monitored through PDAS walk-throughs and evaluations by administrators todetermine technology and professional development training is being implemented into the dailycurriculum of all subject areas. According to the Week 3 Interview, Dr. Abernathy states that weneed to push our teachers to be creative and innovative in creating lessons using technology. When observing teachers and using the PDAS system, this can be assessed and noted. The STaR Chart will be completed by all staff to assist administrators in determining theprofessional development needs of each campus so that achievement will be positivelyimpacted.Campus Technologist will also conduct informal assessment, which may include walk- throughs, written surveys, etc.Student performance on assessments that measure proficiency in grade-appropriateTechnology Application TEKS.Page 13 – Revised October 2009
    • EDLD 5352 Instructional Leadership: The Technology LinkIt is important to survey the students to see how they use technology at home. I think that asurvey each semester would help teachers create lessons that are appropriate to their student’stechnology levels.Page 14 – Revised October 2009
