What’s an API
An application programming interface (API) is an interface implemented by a software program that enables it to interact with other software.
Convio APIs enable your constituents to interact with Convio content on pages that aren’t hosted by Convio(not all advocacy vendors offer APIs, but plenty do)

Convio Advocacy APIs -- methods
getAdvocacyAlert
Returns the information required for a given constituent to participate in an alert.
takeAction
Process an alert interaction, dispatching messages to targets and recording interaction data.
getAdvocacyAlerts
Returns a list of Advocacy alerts.
getAdvocacyInteractions
Returns a list of Advocacy interactions taken by a constituent.

A message is sent on their behalf to the target
If they’re new to file, a record is created for them.
The action is logged on their profile.
You can add elements to this interaction to track the source of new constituents or just make note of how existing constituents are engaging with your organization. This will enable you to measure long term ROI.
