Contest Details and Rules

How to enter the contest

  • To participate in the contest, your presentation should have been uploaded to SlideShare between June 25th 2008 and August 7th, 2008. Presentations uploaded before June 25th are ineligible to participte. The decision of SlideShare regarding eligibility of contest presentations shall be final and binding for all. Your presentations must be uploaded publicly, private slideshows are ineligible to participate.
  • Voting for the contest entries will happen between June 25th, 2008 and August 14th, 2008.
  • You can enter the contest in the following two ways:
    1. While uploading your presentation to SlideShare (single or bulk upload), tick the checkbox "Enter Contest", select "World's Best Presentation Contest 2008" in the dropdown. Next choose a category for your contest entry.
    2. Alternatively, you can upload the presentation as usual. Later, you can enter the contest by going to the presentaiton "Edit" page.

    Your entry will now show up in the contest.
  • You can upload PowerPoint (PPT, PPS   POT), OpenOffice (ODP), PDF and Keynote (for Mac users). For pptx (Powerpoint 2007), please save in lower version (ppt) or save as pdf.
  • Each user can enter a maximum of 10 presentations in the contest.
  • Contest participants must complete their account profile on SlideShare. You must provide genuine details- email ID, your full name, gender, contact details, country, city etc. Failure to do so can result in your entry being disqualified.
  • The contest is not open to residents of Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Syria, North Korea, Myanmar (formerly Burma) Sudan, Puerto Rico or the province of Quebec. Sorry this is due to contest law issues (make sure to read the contest rules for eligibility).
  • Please make sure you are only submitting material that you own the copyright for. Learn more about our copyright policy here.
  • Just as a note, slidecasts are allowed in the contest. If you feel adding audio to your slides will help in creating a more effective presentation, feel free to do so.

More about the judges

Guy Kawasaki is a managing director of Garage Technology Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm, and a columnist for Entrepreneur Magazine. Previously, he was an Apple Fellow at Apple Computer, Inc. Guy is the author of eight books including The Art of the Start, Rules for Revolutionaries, How to Drive Your Competition Crazy, Selling the Dream, and The Macintosh Way. He has a BA from Stanford University and an MBA from UCLA as well as an honorary doctorate from Babson College.

Bert Decker is a major figure in the communications field. He has been on NBC's Today Show many times as their communications expert, often commenting on the Presidential debates. He is the author of the best selling book "You've Got To Be Believed To Be Heard" and "Speaking With Bold Assurance" as well as video and audio programs such as "High Impact Communication" and "Creating A Powerful Presence" for Nightingale Conant. Bert has been featured in The Wall Street Journal and on ABC's 20/20, as well as in major articles in Business Week and The New York Times. Bert founded Decker Communications, Inc., an executive development company that has trained over 250,000 executives and managers in the spoken word. He personally coaches CEOs and leaders such as Charles Schwab, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Olympian speedskater Bonnie Blair, and is currently Chairman of Decker and continues speaking and writing books.

Garr Reynolds is the founder and director of Design Matters Japan and the author of the Presentation Zen website. Garr spent most of the '90s as a "salaryman" in Japan with Sumitomo Electric before working as a marketing program manager at Apple in Cupertino where he refined his simple, visual, engaging approach to presentations. Currently, Garr is Associate Professor of Management at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan and is a popular speaker and consultant both in Japan and abroad. A long time student of the Zen arts and resident of Japan, Garr currently lives in Osaka with his wife (a Japanese designer) and two Siamese cats (who have no appreciable design skill).

Nancy Duarte has been a Principal of Duarte Design, the global leader in developing business presentations since 1988. Duarte Design creates cinematic-quality presentations in any media - helping innovative companies like Adobe, Electronic Arts, HP, and Wells Fargo deliver a compelling experience for their audiences. Duarte also worked with Al Gore to develop the presentation that became the Academy Award winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth. She has a passion for presentations that are clear, meaningful, motivating and attractive. She has an MBA from UCLA, speaks regularly at national conferences, and was a regular contributor to Presentations Magazine.
