The Green Start Program Green Start is a jump start towards sustainability • Duration: Three months • Connect the Dots acts as “personal trainers” in eco-friendly practices • Focus on fundamental conservation practices – Energy Efficiency – Water Conservation – Waste Reduction – Responsible Purchasing www.ConnectTheDotsNetwork.org 6

Requirements for Green Start • Have the ability to authorize facility changes – Upgrades to water fixtures, lighting equipment, etc. • Have the support of nonprofit senior management – Have approval to make significant changes to operations Potential changes include: updating purchasing policies, establishing a culture of conservation, etc. • Have the budget to invest in upgrade costs – Although incentives and rebates typically cover a large portion of the overall project costs, up-front funding is needed. – Up front investments are typically paid-off within the first year. www.ConnectTheDotsNetwork.org 7

Success Story: Walden House ‘890’ is Walden House’s largest adult residential facility providing treatment services to over 110 previously incarcerated men. Meals are cooked and served three times a day with an on-site laundromat.
