A presentation that enthused the audience at the start of the second day was provided by
Professor Carlota Perez. This focused on exploring her analysis of technological revolutions
and the paradigm shifts to which they give rise.
In the last 240 years, delegates heard, five technological revolutions have induced
significant social and economic change: the industrial revolution; the age of steam, coal and
the railways; the age of steel and heavy engineering; the recent age of the automobile and
mass production and the current age of IT and telecommunications. The reason why these
