• Past visions of the future of travel rarely materialise in the present. Visions of mass
travel to the moon, supersonic aircraft and so on that were popular visions of the
future a couple of decades ago have not taken hold. But the unexpected
developments have changed the way that we approach travel, so the apparently
insignificant – for example the advent of wheeled luggage has changed the way that
people approach travel – can have a major impact.
