  • 1. INTRODUCTION We carried a survey on the use of Social Media by Irish teenagers. We shared the survey on Facebook and Twitter. We received 63 responses from young people aged between 13 to 18. Our research was conducted by Alex Ryan from Mount Sackville Secondary School.

  • 6. SMARTPHONES AND APPS  96.83% of Irish teens own a Smartphone  66.25% of Irish teens own a Laptop  31.75% of Irish teens own a Tablet  Top 5 Apps were - Facebook - Snapchat - Instagram - Twitter - Whatsapp
  • 7.  81% of Irish teens are friends with brands 38% of Irish teens don't know all their friends on Facebook in person  68% of Irish teens parents do not monitor what they post online   100% use social media to chat with friends 71% use social media to upload and share pictures and videos 
  • 8. IN CONCLUSION     Irish teens have a love/hate relationship with Facebook User friendly social media is the most popular amongst teens 38% are friends with people they do not know and 81% are friends with brands Almost 97% of teens have smartphones and prefer using mobile devices
  • 9. RESPONDENTS PROFILE 52% were 16  38% were 15  3% were 14 and 18  1% were 13 and 17  81% were female  19% were male  78% lived in Dublin  17% lived in Kildare  5% lived in Meath  2% lived in West Meath 
