  • This title should take up the entirety of the slide.
  • This title should take up the entirety of the slide.
  • Theme is ease of use and automation to provide fast ROI and better root cause analysis. Comparisons with IBM’s APA are included.

This is the iStrobe 5.1 splash page.

    Click on the Measurement icon.
  • Back to the iStrobe splash panel.

    Click on the myStrobe icon.
  • This is the new GUI for taking measurements. This is for an Add Queued measurement. There is also an Add Active screen (not shown).

    Click on DB2 tab.
  • Profiles can be created automatically after measurement.

This screen allows you to input SQL Analysis parameters.

    Click on Source Support tab.
  • The percent value for Measurement time match the Execution and Wait percent from the MSD’s Percent time section
Selecting CPU or WAIT in this chart will highlight the corresponding the tabs below.

Both CPU and WAIT show the top 5 user application CPU and WAIT hot spots. Names on the chart and title lines are the module names. If it’s a long name, hovering over it will provide the entire name.

Wait percentages in the bar chart and title lines are percentages based on the wait samples and not the entire measurement.
  • No longer in the program section of General WAIT and CPU reports.

LE options that may impact CPU utilization displayed is the same as Strobe 4.4 but we have added hyperlink help text.
The ‘All LE options’ was added instead of requiring the customer to hotkey to the full report. Clicking on the title will display the options. Only some of these options have hyperlinks. Customers can add their own help text if they wish.
  • The file tab is new with 5.1. With this the top 5 DDNAMES that match the criteria section are chosen.
File wait; new with this release.
EXCP counts, previously part of General tab.

The wait percentages are also expressed as a percentage of wait and not a percentage of the entire measurement.
Each DDNAME described contains the information that is also presented in the dataset characteristic report.

Strobe Advisor will provide additional analysis where applicable
  • 2 possible CICS reports are available for application transactions.
    Profiled Transactions by CPU%
    All transactions by CPU%
If transaction profiling is not being used, then only the All transactions section will be provided.
The reports provided are the same as the CICS Service time reports for the top transactions. Therefore the API and non-API reports will be available for profiled transactions.

New with 5.1 is the TCB switching information.
Change TCB Mean Service Time (sec) – the average service time spent swapping between CICS kernel TCBs
Change TCB Modes – the number of times that the transaction was swapped between CICS kernel TCBs, e.g. QR to L8, L8 to QR, etc. A CICS task always starts and ends on the QR TCB and depending on transaction definition and EXEC CICS calls, can be re-dispatched on another CICS TCB.
Change TCB Service Time % - the percentage of the total service time spent swapping between CICS kernel TCBs.
Strobe Advisor will indicate if CICS tracing is active.
