I'm starting to build my slides, and I think it would work well if we could somehow assign each table one of the four topics I'll be covering (mobility, security, big data, or communications), then simply ask them in their 10 minutes to come up with the largest issue facing MSPs in that area. Then I'll incorporate that into the presentation afterwards.
  • Research intro—briefly give overview of our process and our areas of coverage.
  • Intro to topic—talk about purpose of this particular study and briefly touch on four areas.
  • Table discussion—each table will have one topic and will come up with the top issue for MSPs in that topic.
  • Mobility—ask mobility tables to give feedback and give mobility market information
  • Talk through various mobility offerings from channel firms. Highlight relatively high levels of participation across the board.
  • Talk about importance of end users having a proactive approach to mobility and ways in which MSPs can help guide their customers.
  • Security—ask security tables to give feedback and give security market information
  • Highlight relatively high levels of participation in security fields—compare to mobility—question whether channel firms truly have offerings or are attaching buzzwords.
  • Talk through differences in Security as a Service and Managed Security
  • Big Data—ask Big Data tables to give feedback and give Big Data market information
  • Note that fewer firms claim to have Big Data offerings. Talk about wide range of opportunities in data space.
  • Talk about ways in which channel firms are improving Big Data knowledge/offerings. Note that similar activities apply to other three areas.
  • Communications—ask communications tables to give feedback and give communications market information
  • Talk about channel firms’ offerings and note how the top 5 are all point products. Discuss channel firms’ view of customer communications priorities and point out that the customer view will be gathered in upcoming communications study.
  • Talk about ways that channel firms are branching out in their partnering and the benefits they are seeing by doing so.
  • Three takeaways for solution providers.

    9. 9. Research – Seth Robinson • Emerging technology trends are causing disruption in all areas of IT, including channel firms. Vendors, resellers, and managed service providers are adjusting their offerings to provide the products and services that are in demand as businesses adjust the way they procure and use technology. Using data from CompTIA's recent Channel Product Offerings study, we will discuss the transformations taking place in the areas of mobility, big data, security, and communications.
