– Do you often communicate with strangers on the Internet?
Theoretical introduction
Social networks is a convenient and very popular way to share information and
communicate with familiar people and strangers, but without obvious benefit, using of social
networks can cause many problems. By trying to inform the users we give advice for the users of
social networks.
2. Control the information that you publicize – you have to understand that the information
that you announce in social networks is practically available for everyone. In the most popular
social networks there is a possibility to choose who sees your information – anyone or just your
friends. But do you really know your all social network friends and you know who they are
truly? Maybe in your contact list you have people who you do not know at all and maybe they do
not even exist?
Do not publish the information which discredits you – photos from parties, nudity, the
photos where you do an offense – it does not matter if you or friends are in it. Any information,
which gets into the Internet stays there forever because it can be copied and spread without any
control. When you share it with your friends, they share with their friends and the process repeats
itself. Even if you deleted primary information, it would continue to spread without possibility
to stop it. Also, you can not completely delete photos from some social networks, for example,
Facebook.
Adjust your privacy settings in your social network – every social network suggests a
diversity of profile settings which defines who can look through your publishing information. Do
not forget to log out from your profile after using other computer, but even better is to use just
only that computer that is in your control and network.
