Your Lifetime Goal - Presentation Transcript

    1. Your Lifetime Goal Philippians 3:12-16
    2. Your Lifetime Goal
      • Be not satisfied with what you are now (3:12).
        • Paul was not satisfied with who he is when he wrote this epistle from a prison in Rome.
        • Notice the word, “not.”
          • This shows that Paul has not been perfected yet.
        • Right now, we are being sanctified to become glorified in the future.
        • Timeline of salvation
          • Justified, now sanctifying, future glorification
    3. Your Lifetime Goal
      • Be not satisfied with what you are now (3:12).
        • You should never be satisfied with your current spiritual level.
          • You should aim for higher levels in your relationship with Christ Jesus.
          • The Devil is very eager for the day when you are satisfied spiritually, becoming lukewarm for Christ.
    4. Your Lifetime Goal
      • Be not satisfied with what you are now (3:12).
      • Be striving to be the best person God wants of you (3:12).
        • “I press on” means to strain very hard
        • You should strain very hard to reach glorification
          • Christ Jesus already saved you – “Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.”
          • You struggle with your flesh right now (Romans 7:21-25).
    5. Your Lifetime Goal
      • Be not satisfied with what you are now (3:12).
      • Be striving to be the best person God wants of you (3:12).
      • Be focusing on the future rather than on the past (3:13).
        • In order to reach your lifetime goal, you should be forgetting things of the past (3:5-7).
        • Focus on future (finish line).
    6. Your Lifetime Goal
      • Be determined to receive the prize from Christ (3:14).
        • Notice the word, “press,” which means to strain very hard.
        • Paul strains very hard to achieve his goal of receiving the prize from God.
          • Prize – not being ashamed in the presence of Christ (1 John 2:28).
          • Prize – achieve goal God has for your life – to be like Christ
    7. Your Lifetime Goal
      • Be determined to receive the prize from Christ (3:14).
        • “Upward call of God in Christ Jesus”
          • Prize isn’t on the earth but rather in heaven.
          • In Greek Olympic Games, the judges call out your name to receive your prize (laurels).
          • God calls out to us to heaven to be in His presence forever, being glorified forever.
          • Also, God calls out to us to receive our rewards (2 Corinthians 5:10).
    8. Your Lifetime Goal
      • Be disciplined to reach the goal (3:15-16).
        • Mature Christians should have the same mind as Paul.
          • If you don’t have the same mind, grab the opportunity today!
        • Christians are at different levels spiritually but all are expected to grow to higher levels (vs. 16).
        • We should live by the same rule as other Christians have.
          • Press toward goal of receiving prize from Christ.
    9. Your Lifetime Goal
      • Be not satisfied with what you are now (3:12).
      • Be striving to be the best person God wants of you (3:12).
      • Be focusing on the future rather than on the past (3:13).
      • Be determined to receive the prize from Christ (3:14).
      • Be disciplined to reach the goal (3:15-16).
