Introducing Collections Trust • We are proud to have promoted the education of the public by supporting the development of museums since 1977 • We develop, promote, maintain and improve standards of collections and information management in museums • We provide services and resources which improve the resilience and use of collections

Facts & figures • Team of 12 based at the Natural History Museum • Turnover c. £1.5m p.a (33% ACE-funded, 33% EU-funded, 33% self-funded) • Current portfolio of EUR19m in EU support for Digital projects • 23,000 registered users of the SPECTRUM Collections Management standard • Commercial partnerships with 14 CMS software partners • Sponsored by Securitas, Hiscox, Blackwall Green and Inition (3D)

Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal) for collections data • DCHRP – re-using eScience infrastructure for cultural digital preservation • EUROPEANA FOOD & DRINK – incubating commercial business models & products using digital content from museums • EUROPEANA v3 – building the 3rd generation of the European aggregator

New programmes for 2014/15 • Risk, Resilience & Rationalisation • UK-wide programme to support organisational resilience incl. rationalisation, security, insurance, risk management, pests & environment • Going Digital • UK & international ‘back-to-basics’ programme to support museums in developing digital skills, strategies and futureproof infrastructure & content • X3D Europe • Partnership programme to develop good practices in 3D scanning & reproduction & develop the ‘YouTube of 3D models from European museums’ (in discussion with Smithsonian X3D, sponsored by Inition)

Aims for ‘Going Digital’ • 3-year back-to-basics programme to support museums in auditing, reviewing and improving their digital capability • Objective to improve the resilience & adaptability of museums by improving their IT infrastructure • Outputs: – One-day event in November each year – Entry-level information, glossaries & guidance on basic IT for museums – Guidance on procurement, selection and purchasing of kit
