The Effect of airplanes on modern culture Colin Alm Orcutt Academy High School Froshcore March 1, 2013
Why I Chose My TopicI chose my topic for a couple reasons. One beingthat I think airplanes are really cool and Ivealways been fascinated by how they work. SecondI plan to make my career by working on andrepairing airplanes in one of the branches of themilitary.
Background Information Since it was invented, the airplane has completely changed the world as we know it.
ThesisEven though there are other forms oftransportation, airplanes have had a huge impacton our daily lives because airplanes havechanged the outcomes of both world wars andairplanes allow us to travel across the worldfaster than any other means of travel.
Flight Throughout history, man has always been fascinated by birds and have wished to be able to fly like them.
Flight Flight was never actually achieved until Wilbur and Orville Wright flew the Wright Flyer on December 17, 1903. Their first flight took place in the fields of a small North Carolina town called Kitty Hawk.
Flight The first airplane was very different from aircraft of today. For one, it was made of wood and canvas instead of metal. It was also very small and built to carry one person.
Airplanes Today Now, airplanes are a major part of business and allow us to travel around the globe faster than any other form of transportation. I took a flight from Washington DC to LA once and the flight took about 6 hours. If airplanes didn’t exist and I had to drive from one coast to the other, it would take over a week and it wouldn’t exactly be the most fun ever.
Airplanes Today Now, with the help of the airplane, anyone can order something from a business across the world and have it delivered to them in about one week.

Did You KnowDuring WW1 they were used mainly for recon. Large cameraswere attached to the bottom of the airplane. Then the planewould fly over the battlefield and take pictures that coveredlarge areas of land. Using these pictures soldiers were able tofind trench lines and locate the enemy’s position. This wasespecially useful when using artillery because; the enemycould be weakened by artillery before sending ground units. InWW2 airplanes had all the same uses but were also used asbombers and fighters. Bombers would fly over an areaimportant to the enemy and drop a payload of bombs todestroy it. Fighters were made to take down bombers beforethey reached their drop zone.
What I ThinkAs a whole I think the airplane was thegreatest invention of all time. Eversince they were invented airplaneshave completely changed the world aswe know it. Despite the fact that thereare other forms oftransportation, airplanes have had ahuge impact on our lives.
