    Elaboration – is usually taught through the writing process. We are going to look incorporating elaboration into writing, reading, and speaking skills.

      • Growling and slobbering, my 3-year-old black lab Grover tugged at the rubber bone I held in my hand.
    3. There are several types of Elaboration.
      • Vivid description or example
      • Anecdote
        • Last year at Halloween, I was running out the door at 5:30, pillowcase in hand, hitting the houses in my neighborhood with my friend Steven.
      • Statistics
        • I got 237 individual servings of candy, and it was my highest record yet.
      • Quotations
        • My mother yelled, “Put the candy away! You will make yourself sick.”
    4. Your turn….
      • The movie was exciting.
      • I walked home.
      • The building was new.
      • The cookies were colorful and good.

      • Teenagers have problems.
      What problems?

      Why are they stressed out?

      • Teenagers have problems. One out of every five teens report they are stressed out. Advanced Placement, after school jobs, participating on athletic teams, and taking care of younger siblings all impact a teen’s life.
    8. Students need to intentionally look for elaboration strategies in all types of texts.
