    6. 6. Rationale for Embracing and Utilizing Technology  • Reduction of Advising Faculty• Limited budget• Space constraints….go paperless!!

Rationale for Embracing and Utilizing Technology • Allowing students to access information on-line  • Allowing advisors to access student information on-line o Satellite advising o Evening & weekend advising  • Fall 2012.....COE freshmen admission with mandatory advising.....projected increase of 700 students annually

Supportive Factors and Characteristics  • Very supportive administration o For example: funding to support development of online advising modules • Change in office leadership and organizational structure • Recognition that we were at a turning point • Willingness to embrace technology • Development of a Technology and Distance Programs Support Unit in the College of Education

Current OSASTechnological Practices SIS (Student Information System)   • Electronic student files   • Linked with official        student records (Banner)   •  Linked with online applications         & graduation audits   • Online accessibility with        Virtual Private Network (VPN)   • Live Demonstration of SIS

Current OSAS Technological PracticesOnline Advising Modules  •  To satisfy the Universitys mandatory advising         requirement  •  To meet the needs of an anticipated 700 additional        students to the College of Education  •  Assist students in selecting a major, understanding        program requirements, and learning how to use        registration and degree journey programs (online course       planning)  •  Live Demonstration of Online Advising Modules
