How to Keep Thinking ‘Out the Box’ and Increase Results

  1. 1. How to Keep Thinking ‘Out the Box’ and Increase Results Sometimes, after experiencing a certain level of success, it can be difficult to continue to think outside of the box. In a lot of ways, the desperation that comes from the desire to succeed is what fuels out of the box thinking. When you are struggling to get your foot in the door, thinking out of the box is not just something that you do… it can be a very important survival mechanism. You have no choice but to think of new ways to do things, because your very success relies on it! But now, being successful and having achieved a level of success in your own right, you might find it difficult to continue thinking outside of the box as much as you need to in order to achieve your next level of success. Now that you are earning a competitive profit on your products and/or services, you probably often find yourself wondering if success has caused you to ‘lose’ your ability to think of new, inventive ways to move forward. Well, you will be glad to hear that this is a common thing to go through for many successful business owners. After becoming the success that you planned on becoming, moving forward can be a difficult step. In some ways, you might feel like you have nothing left to work towards until you set some new goals so you now can work toward achieving the next tier of success. Now that you have accomplished your initial goals, what do you do next? What is your next adventure? Out of the box thinking is, basically, the ability to think of new and inventive ways to do things. It means pulling ideas out of thin air that have never been tried before! In this day and age, out of the box thinking is a requirement. There is so much competition out there nowadays that traditional and typical ideas just don’t cut it anymore if you want to differentiate yourself from your competition. Acknowledge and Celebrate The first step to moving forward is to acknowledge what you have done. Take a look at what you have accomplished. Take a minute to reminisce about all that it took to do what you have done. Was it worth it? Do you look back fondly on those early days, or are you glad that they are over? Being realistic about where you are and taking stock of how you feel about it is an essential part of the process. It will help you to ‘regroup’ and to identify exactly where you are in your journey. Once you have acknowledged and celebrated your achievements, it is time to get back to work. Remember Who You Are Never forget that YOU have achieved AMAZING THINGS! So never feel like the road is ‘over’ for you. If you had what it took to achieve success once, then moving on to another level will

Remember that you have a lot to be proud of, and remember that it might take some time to prove to yourself that you still have what it takes to come up with the same kinds of crazy, out of the box ideas that first won you success. Get Back To Your Roots To get back into the habit of thinking out of the box, you might have to return to the place that inspired you in the first place. Do you remember those sleepless nights when you stayed up late, working around the clock to get everything done when you couldn’t afford help? Do you remember how good it felt to watch your ideas grow into a real, successful venture? Do you remember the first week you made more than $10,000? Do you remember how good it felt to know that you had made it? To get back to thinking outside of the box, it is important to revisit that frame of mind that first caused you to find success. Try to re-kindle the passion for your business that drove you to create it in the beginning. Maybe you need to spend a few nights in the office, with nothing more than some hot coffee and a drawing board. Maybe you need to get up before sunrise again, just like you used to before your business got successful enough that you were not required to get up so early. Maybe you need to start hanging out with the same people you hung out with when you used to dream about your business and how it would be some day. Maybe you need to find new mentors who have achieved what you now want to achieve and pick their brain. Maybe you need to find an accountability group of business owners who are all looking to achieve their next level and join them. Going back to your roots is sometimes the best way to rekindle the old feelings of excitement that you used to need for out-of-the-box thinking, but it is definitely not the only option. Keep in mind that what got you to where you are today typically isn’t going to be everything you need to get you to where you ultimately want to be. Maybe you need new goals. Maybe you need to plan a new expansion. Try to challenge yourself, and set BIG goals that are going to cause you to have to do something different, something outside of your comfort zone, something that pushes the envelope. Try to keep growing, and fight the urge to grow stagnant. Success doesn’t have to spell the end of your effectiveness as a creative inventor of new ideas. You can still be an out of the box thinker AND successful. By finding out how to do both, you will be able to find both fulfillment and new levels of success. © Anne M. Bachrach. All rights reserved.
