    • • is a sweet food made by bees using nectarfrom flowers. The variety produced byhoney bees (the genus Apis) is the onemost commonly referred to and is the typeof honey collected by beekeepers andconsumed by humans. Honey producedby other bees and insects has distinctlydifferent properties.
    • • Honey has a long history of humanconsumption and is used in various foodsand beverages as a sweetener andflavoring. It also has a role in religion andsymbolism.• Flavors of honey vary based on the nectarsource, and various types and grades ofhoney are available. It is also used invarious medicinal traditions to treatailments.
    • • Honey is created by bees as a foodsource. In cold weather or when fresh foodsources are scarce, bees use their storedhoney as their source of energy.• By contriving for bee swarms to nest inartificial hives, people have been able tosemi-domesticate the insects, and harvestexcess honey.
    • • In the hive (or in a wild nest) there arethree types of bee:– a single female queen bee,– a seasonally variable number of male dronebees to fertilize new queens,– and some 20,000 to 40,000 female workerbees.The worker bees raise larvae and collect thenectar that will become honey in the hive.Leaving the hive, they collect sugar-rich flowernectar and return.
