  • ASSESSMENTS WORKSHEET
    • Using your notes, write 2 examples of times you would expect to see each question type. Use the lines at the side of each slide for this purpose. If you need more room use another sheet of paper; staple it to the packet when complete.
    • EXAMPLE:
    • Essay: Mrs. Maybee tells you to write an essay on the discovery of an element, explaining it’s importance to the Periodic Table of Elements and history overall.
    • Essay: Mr. Gaffney has you write an essay on the Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit, giving examples of where you use them in your daily life and how you see others use them in your daily life.
  • TRUE / FALSE
    • T/F questions are most often about specific facts:
    • LA: events in plot
    • SS: specific event on a specific date
    • SCI: scientific laws or theories
    • MATH: functions & rules
    • FF: Church teachings
  • MATCHING
    • Matching questions connect ideas
    • LA: characters to traits, vocab
    • SS: countries to capitols, vocab
    • SCI: vocab, parts of experiment
    • MATH: correct answers (estimating)
    • FF: people to descriptions
  • MULTIPLE CHOICE
    • Multiple choice questions usually have 3-5 possible answers. Most often, only two could be correct. You should ALWAYS re-read the question to make sure you understand exactly what is being asked.
    • Multiple choice questions are usually written in two forms: as a question to be answered or as a “stem,” a sentence where the answer supplies the missing word or phrase.
  • FILL-IN THE BLANK
    • Fill-in questions ask for specific pieces of information. This often is the most important part of an idea or definition. Many teachers supply Word Banks of possible answers for students to use.
    • Be careful not to over-think fill-in questions. Try saying the question to yourself outloud (quietly during a test) to make sure you understand exactly what the question is asking.
  • SHORT-ANSWER ESSAY
    • S/A essay questions ask you to combine different pieces of knowledge in order to create a new answer. They often require a 1-2 sentence response. Be sure to answer ALL PARTS of the question in your answer, and to answer the question completely. With this question type, it is better to write too much than to write too little.
  • ESSAY
    • Essay tests are designed to have you take your previous knowledge and combine it with your opinion to argue a point. These usually require a 3 paragraph minimum, and are complex to answer. It is best to create a bubble chart or outline of your answer before answering an essay question. Be sure to answer ALL PARTS of the question, and to answer each part completely. Quoting sources often gets more points in these types of questions.
  • RUBRIC ASSESSMENTS
    • Rubrics are used to assess projects, and are often given at the beginning of an assessment. Students should always aim to fulfill the boxes with the highest number of points. EACH ROW (HORIZONTAL) MUST BE FULFILLED IN YOUR PROJECT. Students should be creative in their ideas, but should always get teacher approval for any project they complete using a rubric for assessment.
  • PERFORMANCE TESTS
    • Performance tests determine how well you can complete a specific prescribed action. These tests are most often easiest for T/K learners, as they require use of the body. In school, most performance tests are found during specials classes such as PE and music, but can also be found in foreign language, science, and math.
    • Be sure to know exactly what is expected when attempting a performance test; these are often-times all-or-nothing assessments.
