In June 2011 CMI responded to the Home Office consultation on the future of police leadership and training, based on a report written by former National Policing Improvement Agency CEO Peter Neyroud. The consultation document makes a series of proposals about radical restructure of the police training and development landscape, including the establishment of a professional body for the police service, which would be responsible for the key national standards, qualification frameworks, and leadership and training approaches for the service, as well as delivering training in specialist areas such as forensics and firearms.

Our response sets out the wide range of leadership and management development which we already carry out with police forces around the country, and makes various recommendations as to how the professional body can work closely with CMI to reach its objectives without unnecessary duplication.
