  • Main Point: While the concept of public cloud has gotten much of the public attention, the reality of today’s IT environments is much more heterogeneous. Companies are building private clouds for more sensitive workloads that require the elasticity of cloud but also more control and oversight. And they are retaining traditional IT investments for other situations as well. This results in a hybrid environment that must be integrated to function effectively. Hybrid cloud is the reality today and into the foreseeable future. Different patterns of IT support are appropriate for different needs and that is not going to change. So the challenge becomes one of integration, coexistence, and recognizing what model is best for a given task.
  • Key point: IBM has the broadest set of capabilities across SW, HW and Services. Built with a commitment to open standards and interoperability, IBM SmartCloud delivers on the promise of cloud computing no matter where in the adoption lifecycle a customer might reside. The IBM SmartCloud family is comprised of three major segments: SmartCloud Foundation – the set of HW and SW technologies that an enterprise can use to build their own private or hybrid clouds SmartCloud Services – Infrastructure and Platform capabilities delivered as a Service on the IBM SmartCloud public cloud offering SmartCloud Solutions – the ever growing collection of Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions that are built with industry relevance and help enterprises transform their existing business processes

Having that choice and knowledge of flexibility enables our clients to focus on the business outcomes of SmartCloud solutions and not to worry about the underlying infrastructure and platform. <Note about PureSystems as part of the SCF family> IBM SmartCloud Foundation provides offerings that enable our clients to easily build, manage, and rapidly scale their private/hybrid cloud environments. PureSystems deliver important additions to the IBM SmartCloud Foundation that accelerate the building and scaling of private/hybrid cloud environments. By using PureSystems as building blocks, you can significantly reduce your effort and the time it takes to create private/hybrid cloud-based environments.
  • Key Point: On October 11 th , IBM announced IBM SmartCloud Foundation, a comprehensive set of cloud enabling technologies that provide the foundation for integrated cloud service delivery and management. across private and hybrid cloud models. We are building out SmartCloud Foundation as a modular set of interoperable technologies for incremental adoption, to help customers build secure, scalable, workload aware clouds – core characteristics – whether deploying private cloud initiatives… connecting to public cloud services … or performing full datacenter transformations. The Foundation includes a broad array of capabilities from service automation and assurance to secure integration of hybrid, public, and private clouds. We will dive deeper into each of these capabilities in upcoming slides.
  • Key Point: Lets take a deeper look at the technologies that enable infrastructure services. IaaS technologies help clients move beyond simple virtualization to fully automated, cost effective IT service delivery. This layer provides a combination of cloud enabling hardware infrastructure as well as service delivery and management software from IBM. Critical enabling technologies at the IaaS layer include SmartCloud Monitoring – which monitors virtualized severs, storage and networks to ensure maximum utilization without compromising performance. SmartCloud Provisioning which automates deployment of virtualized resources across mixed hypervisor and vendor environments. What makes these capabilities particularly valuable is their integration, enabling organizations to take requests, deploy infrastructure, assure the quality and integrity of service being delivered and when additional capacity is needed, to automatically maintain that deploy new resources. All of this can be provided to users much like a utility provides power, with accurate billing even across shared computing resources.
  • Speaker Notes: IBM ’s SmartCloud technology, designed into the PureSystems family, accelerates your Cloud adoption. IBM SmartCloud is comprised of the industry's most advanced cloud services and software-- designed from the ground up to empower enterprises with unprecedented choice, security and portability as they shift business critical data, activities and processes to the Cloud. In the Platform as a Service model, clients have the ability to use programming languages, tools and services to develop and deploy applications on multi-tenant, shared infrastructure. This also allows for securely controlling deployed applications and simplified environments without the need to manage or control specialized resources. With the PureApplication System, the application lifecycle can be contained in a single system, speeding deployment by up to 100x or more! In the Infrastructure as a Service layer, clients get a secure model for processing, storage, networks, and other computing resources. This also allows for rapidly and elastically provisioning and controlling resources to deploy and run software and services without the need to manage or control the underlying resources. With PureFlex System, this layer is integrated and optimized to drive up to a 55% reduction in management time and cost! In both systems, integrated virtualization and deployment capabilities accelerate your shift to infrastructure and platform Cloud services. • . if a client buys NGP Standard or Enterprise and installs SC Entry, can they install SCP and SCO on the same box later? if a client buys NGP Standard or Enterprise, can they elect to NOT install SC Entry and install SCP and SCP on that box? -Software
  • Infrastructure: Improve utilization and increase operational agility Operations: Gain control over images and improve admin costs Dev: Accelerate time to market Client Pains: Multiple virtualized IBM systems Drive up utilization of utilization and systems Remove price, sales profile – channel and Administer Automation Application Deployment Orchestrates - SCE - Start SCP - Scale IWD – Deploy (rebranded into SmartCloud) Monitoring – Visbility ISDM – (to be SmartCloud Orchestrator (currently ISDM) Add smartcloud 1Q branding chart from scott, add storage to this chart - Direction for 1H 2012 GBLE as a way to sell Move IWD to after SCP - Figure multiple entry points 7520 for SCEntry software only ($150k for total sale)  IWD + cloud capacity entitlements = 140k (CCE enables them with cloud capacity) and then for HVs avg size deal is 500k  Orchestrate services and automate runbook activities across a mult-tenant infrastructure Challenges: 1. Lacking clear upgrade path 2. Overlapping capabilities make it difficult to market and sell 3. Multiple products are needed to implement and progress a cloud solution 4. Lagging in core and advanced capabilities: Multi-tenancy, Runbook Automation, Service Usage and Accounting 5. Vendors are moving up the stack > What ’s our control point? Clients: Selling image and application provisioning together Early sales show that we are selling IBM Workload Deployer + SmartCloud Provisioning together Emerging patterns for enterprise clients (Citi, Bank of America): Tivoli Service Automation Manager, Smart Cloud Provisioning, IBM Workload Deployer, WebSphere Hypervisors Lower price point Interest for simple, low cost cloud offering delivered via channels (must be at ~$50K – IaaS SW & HW) Pervasive – Image Management is a fundamental capability Simple, rapid, easy automation and optimization tool with image management and hypervisor options reduce operational cost, especially with growing VMWare cost (Dutch Cloud) Competitors: Clear Upgrade Path VMWare, HP, Cisco, VCE all have an upgrade path with their offerings, enabling their clients to start small and grow Bundling VMWare and HP have entry and advanced offerings comprised of point products bundled together Integrating virtual systems and virtual application patterns into cloud offerings HP CloudMaps, Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder, VMWare vFabric Application Director Analysts: Roadmap for Growth Clients are building their 5 year roadmap for cloud, and we need to give them choice for entering into the journey and growing at different phases. “Don’t hide your xxx” (Gartner) Delight the Client 19 clients did not get “enough” with vCloud Director because the product was so limited in feature / function and didn’t provide enough capabilities for those clients that need something beyond VM provisioning
  • Key Point: As cloud computing becomes more pervasive, clear and well-defined approaches that consistently deliver tangible results are emerging. These patterns of adoption meet the most pressing priorities of organizations today and can be grouped into the following four categories. These categories were developed by benchmarking over 3,000 cloud engagements with IBM customers. Cut IT expense and complexity through data center optimization : addresses immediate needs for cutting IT expense and complexity while improving efficiency of service delivery. Typically these projects include significant elements of consolidation, virtualization, standardization and automation. Accelerate time to market by rapidly building, deploying, and managing new services - solve the need for accelerating time to market for new services and increasing profitability and competitive advantage. Typically these projects are characterized by standardized and automated provisioning of topologies for pre-defined workloads. Gain immediate access to enterprise-class software as a service is about gaining immediate access to enterprise class solutions while minimizing risk and capital expense. Some services include collaboration, business process management, analytics, application management, email, integration, order-to-cash, B2B, dev/test, service desk, and marketing. Innovate business models by becoming a cloud service provider is for organizations that want to capitalize on new business models and revenue sources by offering cloud-based services to others. Examples range from core cloud service delivery to industry-specific integrated service management with storage, networking and security.

  • This slide describes the IBM Cloud Certification that was introduced in the Spring of 2010. We should strongly encourage Partners to designate one of more individuals with a Cloud “mission” on their team to take the course and exam (available at the url listed) to obtain the IBM Cloud Certification.
  • IBM is the first to announce and make available cloud computing architecture certification. A pre-test assessment is available now at the Prometric IBM website. Taking the pre-exam assessment is a great way to know you’re ready to take the proctored exam, as the assessment uses the same bank of questions as the actual exam.
