  • This slide provides an overview of the entire presentation.
  • C ompanies are facing increased global complexity, more complex regulations and the heightened impact of business disruption, as well as difficulty in coping with the current financial turmoil. Because of the increasingly riskier environment, organizations today have less and less tolerance for downtime and data loss. As a result, they are looking to lower recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs) to shorten downtime while moving toward a continuous availability infrastructure. Also, because of increasing financial and budget pressures, including limited access to capital, companies are looking to cut costs and refocus on their core business—leaving their companies exposed to more operational issues.
  • Multiple satellite locations and mobile workers with laptops and personal computers who can conduct business “anytime, anywhere” help you retain the competitive edge you need to succeed—but also result in growing volumes of distributed data that’s vulnerable and difficult to protect. IT departments, already challenged just to manage the explosive data growth that’s consolidated on servers, don’t have the time, resources or budget to ensure that data is continuously, reliably backed up, and that recovery is quick and seamless.
  • The impact of downtime to businesses can be measured by millions of dollars per hour. There are large potential risks not only from internal issues but also from strategic partners and other stakeholders. Because just one dollar per minute of downtime on a help desk, order processing or something similar can lead to millions in lost revenue, loss of brand reputation and increased customer dissatisfaction, most companies are realizing they need to ensure that they have an effective business resiliency infrastructure and disaster recovery plan in place.
  • Companies are facing many challenges managing critical data including: protecting information, controlling information and managing compliance. Additional IT challenges include how to: Manage the growth of systems, data and service level agreements (SLAs) required by the business Support the business objectives of around-the-clock systems availability to meet customer requirements Manage the cost of acquiring or retrofitting an alternative data center for offsite data protection, dedicated recovery or availability Address limited funding and investment in data protection, business resiliency and disaster capabilities, and IT recovery infrastructure
  • Our onsite data protection service is a fully managed solution designed to help deliver data protection best practices as a comprehensive turnkey service. Managed backup and restore services are available to customers hosted at an IBM or at customer-owned data centers and include all hardware, software and support on a pay-for-use model. As shown in the data room graphic on this slide, IBM can manage services at our site or at yours, and can provide hardware, software and support.
  • It's more important than ever for organizations of every size to employ reliable, distributed data protection strategies that help ensure business continuity and effective disaster recovery. IBM can help you with our professionally managed, remote data protection service for your servers, personal computers and laptops virtually wherever they’re located. The diagram on this slide shows customer-owned personal computers and servers, and mobile workers connecting through a wide area network to an IBM remote data protection service platform.
  • The graphic on this slide depicts how fastprotect online connects laptops and desktops through a wide area network to an IBM resiliency center. It leverages cloud computing to enable you to access remote storage capacity over the Internet, virtually anytime and anywhere, to help: • Provide continuous data protection Take advantage of network-delivered services without having to invest in or manage the infrastructure or implementation • Provide on demand, rapid delivery of computing resources, when and where you need them • Simplify service delivery, with unbounded scale, differentiated quality and with a user-centric interface that fosters rapid innovation and efficient decision making • Provide cost-effective provisioning processes, applications and services
