  • The Self Enablement Portal provides a next generation self help tool that utilizes innovative technology we have developed with the IBM Research and Development teams. The ultimate goal is to empower users in resolving their own issues and thus limit the need for live assistance. Through the rented solution capability, we transform desks into a lower total cost of ownership by providing fully functional portal out of box through a SaaS style offering that plugs into existing help desks to manage execution. Primary Customer Pain Points Inconsistent customer service experiences Maintaining user productivity Managing and maintaining a cost effective support structure High cost of IT investment The value of the self enablement portal allows for the customer to have controlled, managed and reduced support cost over time, with potential for cost take outs against the TCO for help desk. It provides a consistent, location independent support for global and mobile workers that is available 24x7x365 with improved employee productivity through powerful self help capabilities in multiple languages, in multiple countries. The intent of the portal is to avoid calls into a help desk – to empower the end users to solve their problems on their own quickly and efficiently. The managed service provides a customer tailored and end user personalized experience to achieve faster resolution, pertinent to the end user. off the shelf and customer specific content is kept current through a centralized management system, while the top questions are highlighted to end users dynamically through our exclusive data mining technology. Should the portal not solve the user’s situation, however, we continue to support by providing flexible incident management system integration as well as a self contained remote control and chat capability to augment help desk support. The self enablement portal is a cornerstone product for the End user Services SPL, and as such continuous improvement is planned, working with IBM Research and Development to provide leading edge products and solutions for our portal. A strong benefit of the managed service is that continuous improvement will most often take place behind the scenes for the end users, limiting down time associated with more project based offerings. Ultimately, our goal is to strengthen support through operational excellence and superior technology to provide innovation that matters. MORE DETAILS IF NECESSARY: Users will search for content through the centralized knowledge by way of IBM’s Omnifind search engine, which includes an innovative auto completion feature. This technology guides the user to their answer as they type by providing possible words and phrases based upon their input. The search will provide results from our multilingual common off the shelf content. This content is included as a base part of the offering, through PCHowTo. The search results will also contain results from customer specific content, as provided through IBM knowledge management systems or customer systems. Ultimately, the portal provides a wrap up of usage through the reporting mechanism, with the intention of showing how well the portal has been adopted and the successes achieved. Next, the SEP empowers end users to resolve issues on their own. The portal itself utilizes a new technology from IBM Research to “mine” data from what is presently occurring. This information is then dynamically updated to the customer’s top questions portion of the portal, with relevant solution content included when applicable. This, coupled with news, announcements, and alerts, is shown on the first screen the user views as they enter the portal. The IBM Self Enablement Portal provides integration for the live support assistance after self-service solutions are exhausted. Should users require further assistance through live support, the Self Enablement Portal provides a remote control and chat capability, which integrates to the help desk personnel you include in the solution. The help desk can leverage the inventory scan feature to quickly ascertain the system specifications and programs running on the user’s system to allow for quick problem diagnosis. The portal also drive a low TCO model. SEP integrates with WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Portal Server, DB2 and MQSeries for its base design. SEP integrates as a part of its managed service to Remedy, eESM, or Maximo systems. We have designed connectors to integrate to each of these systems by way of the same managed service – which allows multiple incident solutions to benefit by the same cost savings of not requiring separate self help solutions for each incident system. And, finally, the IBM Self Enablement Portal Offers a personalized, multilingual environment . End users are entitled to the system through a user ID and password, leveraged through the customer’s lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) via the internet. Once entitled, the end user will view a personalized, multi-lingual interface designed for their particular company look and feel. The end user has the capability to further customize their view through a user administration tool – helping them to select material that is pertinent to their daily needs. The SEP is a replacement tool for the Help Now and Virtual Help Desk products. Best practices and lessons learned were incorporated into its design. Moving forward, the expectation is that SEP will be included when your customers need a self help solution. The portal is available in English, Italian, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazilian and European), French Canadian, Finnish, Danish, Norwegian, Korean, Polish, Swedish, and traditional as well as simplified Chinese.

  • System x IBM provides virtualization capabilities that are unique in the marketplace. The System x3850M2 and x3950M2 servers are 118 percent better at virtualization than HP. System x advanced virtualization capabilities are especially important because our customers continue to tell us of their impending virtualization plans. The whole virtualization landscape is maturing, moving from extensive evaluations to large-scale implementations. It is the one way you can minimize costs while maximizing performance. IBM is helping make it possible for server hardware/software to keep pace. We offer a new embedded virtualization option allowing you to quickly bring up your virtualization infrastructures. We extended our management to cover both physical as well as virtual resources. And we designed our servers to run virtualization more efficiently. Plus, we offer comprehensive support to customers implementing virtualization within their IT infrastructures. IBM Systems Director 6.1 combines the management of both physical an virtual systems from one console. ( Source on savings:ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/common/ssi/sa/wh/n/xbw03007usen/XBW03007USEN.PDF ) IBM x3850 M2 and x3950 M2 servers deliver consolidation and virtualization capabilities that the competition does not offer: IBM X-Architecture® and eX4 chipset are designed for virtualization with up to 118% better virtualization performance than HP Scales easily from 4- to 16-sockets IBM BladeCenter provides end-to-end blade platform for virtualization: Benefit from virtualization end-to-end—client, server, I/O, networking and storage BladeCenter chassis are highly reliable with no single point of failure *See Substantiation details below Power In January we introduced PowerVM to deliver new economics by enabling higher server utilization and greater energy efficiency. Nearly 90 percent of Power Systems enterprise servers currently use PowerVM technology to save energy and more effectively manage their IT costs. PowerVM provides a rich set of virtualization capabilities that take advantage of POWER6 technology to drive higher utilization rates – 60% or higher System z While many if not most platforms deliver virtualization solutions, they do not deliver the same capabilities. The key attribute that System z delivers that differentiates it from other environments is the ability to share at a highly granular level the key resources of real processors, memory and I/O channels between virtual environments. The result of this is the ability to drive exceptionally high utilization rates and enables tens or hundreds of workloads to run on the same single server simultaneously while maintaining user response times Developed hand-in-hand with its virtualization capabilities, System z delivers advanced techniques for workload management that enable clients to fully exploit the virtualization strengths of the platform. Through a set of highly automated and responsive technologies, the mainframe will continuously re-allocate resources on the fly between workloads, based upon client defined business priorities as and when they need them, while maintaining the response levels that users demand. Finally, we must consider the cost effective solutions available on System z. For the last 7 years IBM has been providing the ability to configure specialty application engines on System z servers. There are three types, The first to be introduced, The Integrated Facility for LINUX (or IFL) is dedicated to Linux workloads. The second, the System z Application Assist processor (or zAAP) is primarily for Java environments, but has been expanded to additional workloads, the third, The System z Integrated Information processor (or zIIP) is primarily for certain data serving workloads, but again like the zAAP has been extended to cover additional workloads. These specialty engines deliver 4 key benefits: Firstly, hardware price. The cost of specialty engines is far lower than that of general purpose processors. In fact when we announced the z10 BC, we halved the price of specialty engines compared to the z9 BC. Secondly the cost of the first 16GB of memory purchased with any zIIP, zAAP and IFL is less than half the price regularly charged for memory. Thirdly much of IBM’s software and some third party software is lower cost than on regular capacity and finally the ultimate in investment protection, where specialty engines have been upgraded from earlier generations, this upgrade is typically no charge…in other words you get the newer technology and higher capacity at no extra cost. The net of all this is that you can consolidate the workloads of 10s or 100s of distributed servers and significantly lower the cost of ownership Notes: Drive hardware utilization rates near continuously at 85%+. Source: Actual System z Customer Usage statistics, 2005-2006. Storage Virtualizing your information infrastructure can make it very much more flexible and responsive to business demands. And storage virtualization does result in significant cost savings. In its study of customers using SVC, Forrester study found a 50% reduction in storage management and administration costs, a 30% improvement in storage utilization, reduction in the cost of storage by controlling growth by an average of 20%, and improved customer and end user availability to data-driven applications resulting in an average of $240K in annual savings. (Source: Forrester - The Total Economic Impact™ Of IBM® System Storage™ SAN Volume Controller) Tape virtualization and data deduplication with the TS7650G can significantly reduce backup and restore times, storing up to 25 times more data, which can also reduce energy costs. • Main Point: Built upon proven WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance technology to further enhance the deployment and management of on-premise cloud environments with new Hypervisors, and best practice workload patterns, and more. Overview IBM Workload Deployer V3.0 dispenses and manages WebSphere Application Server to virtualized servers and private cloud computing environments. Workload Deployer dispenses patterns of virtual images into a pool of virtualized resources running on a supported hypervisor. For your convenience, a set of virtual images including WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition and DB2 is preloaded on Workload Deployer. Licenses to use these virtual images must be purchased separately. In addition to existing support for IBM AIX in PowerVM environments, Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server in z/VM environments, and Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux in VMware ESX environments, Workload Deployer now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux in z/VM environments. For additional information, refer to Software Announcement ABC-123, (RFA-XXXX) dated April 30, 2010. Workload Deployer V3.0 offers exciting new capability: Support for automated elasticity of environments which make use of the WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition Intelligent Management Pack More robust hardware platform, with more compute power and storage capacity Support for a new IBM Workload Deployer Pattern for Web Applications which provides end-to-end management of web applications Ability to initiate virtual machine mobility to more efficiently place workloads Support for Computer Associates’ VM Secure product in z/VM environments Microsoft Excel readable usage reports Finer grained control of IP address assignment and node naming in pattern deployments A new type of pattern is available in Workload Deployer V3.0. These patterns are referred to as “workload patterns.” Workload patterns are tailored for a specific use case, and contain all the capability required to serve that use case. The more familiar “topology patterns” (which are composed of Hypervisor Edition images and have been available since WebSphere CloudBurst v1.0) have become more dynamic in Workload Deployer V3.0. When the Intelligent Management Pack is enabled in a deployed environment, users may enable automated elasticity to allow patterns to grow and shrink without manual input. Workload Deployer also adds support for the new WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition for Red Hat Enterprise Linux for System z virtual image to support Red Hat Enterprise Linux for z/VM. The ability to initiate virtual machine mobility, coupled with finer grained control of IP address assignment and node naming makes it easier to use Workload Deployer in association with production environments. Workload Deployer delivers value in several ways: Helps lower costs, as higher hardware utilization rates are reached in virtualized environments, reducing power consumption. Increases agility and reduces time to value. It empowers individual application managers, developers, and testers to manage IT infrastructure in a more autonomous and agile fashion by leveraging a shared self-service, multi-tenant environment. As a result, your company can quickly adapt to changing business needs. Workload Deployer delivers value by factoring out repetitive, time-consuming manual tasks, such as hardware approvals, operating system installation and configuration, middleware installation and configuration, application installation and configuration, and maintenance applications, and replaces them with a single interaction on the administrative console. Increases repeatability and helps reduce costly errors by allowing you to customize environments once (in the way familiar to WebSphere Application Server users), capture them, and redeploy them at the click of a button. This gives application managers, developers, and testers a standard, known starting point from which to make exploratory changes, evaluate development fixes, apply maintenance, and install applications. Provides a physically secure hardware appliance. It manages a shared, multi-tenant environment, where isolation and security are of utmost importance. The secure nature of the appliance is rooted in a self-disabling switch, triggered if the appliance cover is removed. This physical security allows Workload Deployer to serve as a secure vault for credentials, which can be tied to virtual images throughout their entire lifecycle (in storage, being dispensed, running in the cloud, or being removed from the cloud). Manages users and groups and their access. It tracks and reports usage statistics based on user and group information. These reports can be used for internal chargeback purposes. Workload Deployer is targeted for on-premise production, staging, development, and test environments, and can also serve as the foundation for hosted software-as-a-service environments. • In WebSphere, we’re offering two products in the cloud computing space, shown on this page. WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance A user logs into the WebSphere CloudBurst box, and based on the permissions set for that login, is presented w/ a list of environments (or patterns, as we call them), that can be made available in the cloud. These environments/patterns are multi-server arrangements of WAS Hypervisor Edition (on the right side of this chart). An environment is selected, and CloudBurst then chooses a set of hypervisors (based on utilization) in the cloud to dispense the environment into. WebSphere CloudBurst then presents the user w/ a list of the hostnames that were chosen, and the user can access the patterns running in the cloud. One key point that must be made absolutely clear: WebSphere CloudBurst does NOT run WAS Hypervisor Edition on the purple box . Instead, it dispenses WAS HV into a pool of ESX hypervisors that run on a set of hardware that must be brought to the table. As a corollary, if WebSphere CloudBurst goes away for any reason (failure, etc.), the servers in the cloud continue running, as WebSphere CloudBurst is NOT in the critical path. WAS Hypervisor Edition WAS Hypervisor Edition is the virtual image that is dispensed in the context of patterns by WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance. More on this later.
  • Many enterprise customers are looking to reap the benefits of the cloud computing but wish to build their own private cloud to retain control and to ensure security and privacy of the data. IBM provides a number of solutions to help enterprise customers achieve this goal. IBM WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance (WCA) delivers automation of software provisioning for private clouds. Your enterprise clients create a pool of resources that can include Linux, AIX and Linux for System z systems and WCA can be used to dispense IBM middleware, including DB2 on to this infrastructure. IM Cloud Computing Center of Competence has developed DB2 for WCA images that allow our our clients to implement what we call “pattern based deployment” of the IBM middleware. Clients define application patterns composed of multiple components working together and then deploy these components to the virtual servers and storage that comprises clients private cloud. This greatly accelerates deployments of complete solutions, reduces cost, and most important delivers much higher quality application systems.
