The props we have decided to use in our horror film openingare as follows..• Silver knife• Bubble bath• Shower gel• Hair band• digital radio• Door keyWe have decided to use theses props to create the correctatmosphere for our scene, and as a way of building up tension.
We decided to adda knife into ouropening scene toenhance thetension, and to alsoadd a clue to the audience as to what may happen. We wanted to use asilver knife so that when the light caught it would gleam, keeping it asa main factor for the audience to remember. At the end of the last shotof the opening sequences we added fake blood to the end of the blade,to make it clear to the audience of what was going on. The fact we alsoused a silver knife helps to contrast with the red blood, suggesting thatDanny was in a contrast frame of mind to what he usually is.
Here we have used bubble bath, this is to confirmto the audience that Lucy is going to have arelaxing bath, and its a peaceful atmosphere. Wedecided on using an orange bubble bath tocontrast with the relaxed surroundings as thecolour orange is nowadays associated withHalloween , even though this is very subtle it addsa sense of mystery and is uncomforting for theaudience.
We added in the ‘jack wills’shower gel to contrast with theorange bubble bath, which wouldraise the question to the audienceas to why Lucy is using the ‘not sonice’ substance.
We used a hair band to show theLucy was getting ready to get intothe bath. This will also allow thefemale audience to relate to Lucy asmost woman would prepare to getinto the bath by looking in themirror and taking their hair down. This can also keep the maleaudience interested asstereotypically men find it ‘sexy’when woman take there hair down.
The radio is used to show that Lucy is now getting relaxed, and islistening to music for comfort as she’s home alone. This adds a lot oftension to the opening sequence as it implies to the audience that Lucywont be able to hear anything if it comes. The make of the digital radio iscalled ‘PURE’ which subtly suggests to the audience how young, innocentand venerable Lucy is.
The key is used to add the first hint that the person coming in tothe house probably lives there, and Lucy will know him. It alsoshows how easy it is for Danny to make Lucy his pray.
