  • Whay should we be even thinking of migrationOutage lin October 2011, many CIO’s did not realise that a single vender problem would impact their enteprise worldwideRIM have made some straegic errors, from the playbook to fusion, constant delays in delivering productisThe headlines should on this slide are from this mornings papers , BB10, the expected release of the BB platform has now been delayed until 1° quarter 2013This is not good news for RIM nor the customersSamsung are having an enormous success with the Galaxy SIIIApple are about to release IOS 6 and Iphone 5Windows Mobile 8 is being released in OctoberMicorosft have shown us surfaceGoogle have releaseed theire own tabletRim need to move now rather than later.... A corportation cannot depend on a company with this approach
  • BB was simply unbeatable in the corporate sectorBefore consumerization it was the platform of choiceIT depeartments loved the 500+ security policiesThe closed network design and complete integration into corporate infrastructure gave IT departments the power to implement security as required.Gartner, idc and forester and now predicting otherwise, RIM is no longer seen as being a mjor player.
  • How is rim changing in the workplace, what are we seeingPreviously it was the device seen to show «power» and status within a company, if you had a BB you were somebodyIf you have a BB you ar now relegated toi the simple workforce and BB is the legacy «old school» approach, it is no longer «cutting edge».Rim can no longer be seen as the once invincable stable platform it once was, the outage in Oct 2011 has ruined their reputation and CIO’s a reluctant to have the same problems.Once it was the only enterprise ready mobile platform, this is no longer the case with the increasing addition of enterprise features to consumer devices and the introduction of MDM vendors such as mobileiron
  • Ojas to start off questions to RobertWhat was the catalyst for moving to iOS? (Robert to tell the CEO/sales iPad story)What is the mix of devices now (in %)What do you expect by end of 2012?
  • So what platforms are reccomendedIOS primarliy because of it’s enterprise featuressecurity policiesclosed platformsandboxed applicationsbuilt in encryption Controlled application deploymentOS upgrade ecosystemSupport requirements ease of useAndroidconsumer – 800k activations a daygoogle play (no longer market)target is to get user on gmail, not use MS ExchangeFragmentation, different vendors have different functionality especially encryption and configuration APISWindowswait and see, we expect win mobile 8 to finally address the enterprisere requirements
  • Who needs to register the device – appleid company or user owned? When you take an iphone out of the box it needs to be manually activated – 13 steps required!
  • Imprace new technology, if you don’t do it then the users will do it for youBe flexible, if you just say no then users will find a way around the corporate policies, VIP users will more than likely be bringing new devices into the company on a more frequent basis. If you are an IT department treat your users as customers...Communicate – if there are concerns or limitations as to what you can do or cannot do it is important that users know why, risk must be illustrated soi that the users can realise and understand whay some decisions are taken. If someone installs ios 6 beta and it is not supported they need to realise why (!)Be Prepared – procedures and polices, keep people on your team up to date with the latest releases and devleopment, mobile environment is fastly changing, new devices will arrive quickly and it won’t be long before someone presents a new unseen device and demands corporate data on it (kindle!)Important to communication for example why we need a 6 character complex password instead of a simple 4 number pin for example.Manage Expectations – it is important to realise what you can, and more importantly what cannot be achieved with the new platforms that are being requested.
  • 13 steps to activate an iphone – at the moment this needs to be manually done! Who does it, the user or the service desk?
