Linked Data in Production: Moving Beyond Ontologies
Evaluation 5
1. What have you learnt about
the technologies from the
process of constructing this
product?
2. The Macs. the Mac computers both in school and at home in
Throughout this process, I relied on
order to create my magazine. As already have a Mac at home, I knew what I was
doing when it came to using the school computers and this didn’t hinder my
production in any way. This was the technology I used the most as I feel it is quick
and easy to use and you can perform many tasks at once and made the magazine
production seem more professional and realistic and learnt how good these types
of computers are when it comes to creating media and will definitely keep using
them.
3. The only photo editing website I used was Picnik. I chose to use this throughout the
whole of the process as I have used it before and found that its variety of editing
possibilities allowed me to create a professional looking magazine. All the fonts
and shapes used are also from there and due to Picnik shutting down, all the
premium manipulation features were available for free, meaning I could edit my
images professionally with no cost! One thing I did learn from using this
application to create magazines was that it did take a long time to use, due to the
amount of editing techniques and text etc that has to be applied, so I had to plan
when I was going to use it, so I could make time!
This technology helped me create all my cover, contents and double page spread as I
like the diverse opportunities of what you can create that looks professional.
4. Safari on the Macs both at home and at school. This web
I used Safari, the internet browser
browser is very fast compared to internet explorers I have used in the past and I
like how you can have many tabs open at once, allowing you to get the work done
quicker. Due to my familiarity with this, I didn’t really learn much, however I will of
course keep using it for future tasks.
Safari was especially helpful in the investigation process
and of course allowed me to log onto all the other websites
I needed to get onto!
5. Blogger forms of technology that I hadn’t previously used at all. I
Blogger was one of the only
found the prospect of putting different forms of media onto my posts such as
images, videos and uploading presentations and information to be a bit daunting,
however, it is a very simple web site that is very easy to navigate and I easily got
the hang of it. I enjoyed blogging as I could update and edit my posts as much as I
wanted and it was all very easy to access. I like how I can easily scroll through and
view my progress, too.
6. I had never used Prezi before this task and I found it a very complicated way of
creating presentations. I do like the way that they look in the end result, but I
found it too time consuming and frustrating to create. I am glad I attempted to use
it and I do think the overall look of a Prezi is very interesting, however I will
probably avoid using it in future.
I used prezi in my evaluations only and didn’t think to use them to present research
and planning as, although it looks good, in terms of time management I felt it a
waste of time and would rather put my information straight onto my blog.
7. Slide share is something I had never used before, but was a lot more easier to get the
hang of. I simply created a power point presentation and uploaded it through slide
share so it was ready to put onto my blog. I soon learnt how to use this website
and think it is a simple yet effective way of presenting work.
Again, I only used this to present my evaluations as it presents them professionally
and easily.
8. I used Flickr once throughout the whole of this task. While it can create a visually
attractive photo stream, I couldn’t get my head around how to make this work and
don’t think I did very well in terms of using it. I had never used it before and after
using it I don’t think I will be uploading my photo’s through it again. While it can
present the images in a better quality, I found it easier to simply upload images
straight to my blog.
9. Sony my Sony camera for a while.DSC-H9it, due to the bulkiness of it,
I have had
Cyber-shot I don’t often use
but I find that it captures a lovely quality image and is something worthy of putting
on a magazine cover. I figured that real magazine photos would be shot with
similar cameras and should therefore try and keep it similar to them and
professional. I used this when I was taking the
properly planned photographs that would be on my final cover and other texts.
10. Overall... forms of technology, both in creating the
I have enjoyed using the various different
magazine itself and presenting it and the information in different formats. I have
learnt that there are many different ways of presenting work and while some are
easier to use than others, they all are worth while. I have been lucky not to have
any major difficulties like slow internet or images not uploading.
