What Kind Of Media Institution Mgiht Dsitribute Your Media Prdicut And Why

 1. 1. What Kind of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Film and Why?
 2. 2. The Other Side

Our film is a fairly conventional horror/thriller style film. It follows many of the codes and conventions that you expect to see in this genre when you visit the cinema. Therefore this makes The Other Side a mainstream film.

 3. 3. Niche vs Mainstream

The media world is split into two key areas, niche and mainstream. In media terms niche refers to products that aren’t the norm and do not follow the conventional ways of the mainstream market. Niche markets are a lot smaller and generally have specific characteristics that attract a certain audience.

 4. 4. Mainstream

In media a mainstream market is, generally, the common current of thought of the majority. However, the mainstream is far from cohesive; rather the concept is often considered a cultural construct. It is often decided through the ease in which audiences can access the material. Mainstream products are mass produced and are the most popular by demand.

 5. 5. Where do we Stand?

As our film follows the codes and conventions of mainstream horror/thriller films such as low-key lighting, disturbed characters and so on, we will be aiming to distribute into the mainstream market. Key players in the film market such as 20 Century Fox or Paramount Pictures as these are some of the biggest names and they could help with targeting our audiences.

 6. 6. Marketing

There are many ways in which to target your audience through marketing. Marketing is very important as it is the main way of attracting people to watch the film. Marketing can be done in many ways such as TV/Radio Adverts, publicity stunts, viral marketing among others.

 7. 7. Viral Marketing

Viral marketing and viral advertising refer to marketing techniques that use pre-existing social networks to produce increases in brand awareness or to achieve other marketing objectives. One recent example of this was the film Cloverfield, which marketed entirely in this manner. MySpace pages were created for the fictional characters in the film.

 8. 8. Our Target Audience

We aim to target those between the ages of 15 and 35. And these people will generally be fans of films of our genre. People of this age have been chosen as they are the most technologically capable and this will help with marketing.

 9. 9. How to market The Other Side?

To successfully market our film I think it would require an extensive range of skills. Firstly TV advertisements could be used to gain initial interest along with radio adverts. To make sure we are reaching our target audience, adverts will be shown at night time. Viral marketing will also be used, through web 2.0 software such as Youtube, MySpace and Facebook.
