  • 1. American Thanksgivingis celebrated on the 4thThursday of November.This year Thanksgiving is onThursday 22nd November,2012.
  • 2. In 1620 , 102 pilgrims sailed acrossthe Atlantic Ocean to reach North America.The pilgrims sailed on the ship called Mayflower.
  • 3. The pilgrims arrived in North Americain December 1620.The Wampanoag Indians taught thepilgrims how to cultivate the land.
  • 4. In Autumn 1621 only half of the pilgrimssurvived.The survivors decided to give a thanksgivingfeast to celebrate the first harvest.They celebrated the first Thanksgiving Dayat Plymouth, Massachusetts.The cornucopia is the symbol of abundance.
  • 5. The pilgrims invited the Wampanoag Indiansalso to the feast.The first Thanksgiving celebration wasthree days. The Indians shared their corn and wild turkeys.
  • 6. Thanksgiving was declared a nationalholiday in 1863 by President AbrahamLincoln.
  • 7. Nowadays American families celebrateThanksgivng Day every year.Thanksgiving Day is one of those events thatpeople celebrate with lots of love andgratitude. Its a very significant day inUnited States and the world over.
  • 8. The typical food in Thanksgiving Day is turkey, corn and pumpkin pie.
  • 9. There is a very important parade in NewYork on Thanksgiving Day.There are gigant ballons along the streets.
