Could Barcelona be the next tech startup hub? What will it take, and what should happen for it to be true? Barcelona has so much to offer: talent, some good business schools, an open-minded government, high mobile penetration and not to forget good quality of life. Recently several bullish perspectives on it have been published by TechCrunch, TNW and Barcinno. But there are some barriers to overcome as well…
With this presentation Aldo welcomed everyone at The Next Web event in Barcelona on July 11th, 2013 by commenting on these barriers and how to overcome them. In this presentation we share findings based on an ethnographic study of the Barcelona startup ecosystem, where we interviewed entrepreneurs, investors and advisors. We drew some parallels with the Boquería, the famous food market of Barcelona, and compare it with the global startup ecosystem on VXshift.com, our initiative to bring our expertise on service design and business innovation in the context of disruptive shifts to the startup community.
The TNW@Barcelona event is co-organised by Barcelona IO and Robin Wauters from TNW. Other speakers included angel-investor Luis Cabiedes, Martin Mignot from Index Ventures, Marcel Rafart from Nauta Capital, Jochen Doppelhammer from Yuilop, and Heather Russell from Rinkya.
