  • 1. CIS 317 Introduction to Databases Synopsis of Class Project
  • 2. Class Project Goals
    • Create a database to help the Hospital to track staff, patients and supplies as care is provided in an inpatient and outpatient setting.
    • Create queries for the Medical Director and the Charge Nurse.
    • Design application to manage outpatient appointments as well as the details of inpatients including their contact information, wait list and admission data, ward, beds, caregivers, and the use of surgical supplies and drugs.
  • 3. Database Design Considerations
    • The user view was through a main switchboard which will allow access to forms in add or edit mode.
    • To protect the integrity of the data pre-formatted queries run at the click of a button and see data in a view only format.
    • Reports are available with a single click.
  • 4. Database Design Considerations
    • As this application development progressed there was increased refinement of data integrity through increasing use of combo boxes for data entry.
    • Default date values were applied to the wait list date to minimize data entry when wait-listing a patient.
    • The database was password protected with a password of CIS317.
