Both tablets & smartphones fall under most people’s umbrella of “mobile”Tablets & smartphones each represent massively different business dynamicsDo not confuse them. Or, confuse them…at your own peril.Phones -> carriers / utility subscriptionSubsidizedCustomer acquisition cost, service revenue, and retention drive selling behaviorTablets -> Much more like PCs. End Users / Consumers Building things is easy. Getting people to buy them is hard. Great products don’t necessarily do well (Beta v. VHS, Windows Phone). Apple has become masterful at SELLING (and building).Windows Phone sales are lackluster for one reason: The carriers had no interest in selling it.
