Visitacion Valley facility

students’ PE and
leadership curriculum
• They were incorporated
into students’ school

4. Harding Park Classes
• Taught over 1000
students during Spring,
Summer, and Fall
classes at Harding Park
• Classes were held after
school and weekends
during Spring and Fall
• During Summer, we
taught 5 classes a day
as well as camps.

• Provided daily golf
tutoring and life skills
instruction to 12 men

Bayview/Hunter’s
Point
• Experiences ranged
from field trips to the
U.S. Open, playing the
Cliffs Course at
Olympic and private
instruction from Lake
Merced golf staff
6. Visitacion Valley Golf Team
• In just 8 months, 12
students were golf
course ready
• Spent Tuesdays and
Thursdays playing
Gleneagles
• Integrated into our
Harding Park
programming
• Ended summer by
playing Cliffs Course
and representing our
chapter in Ryder Cup
competitions
7. The Cliffs Course
• For 3 consecutive weeks, 27 students experienced the
Cliffs Course playing with a board member.
• In the words of student Terek Turner, “this course is
much harder than Fleming.”
8. Impacted Visitacion Valley
• Significant reduction in suspension and behavioral
issues
• More consistent attendance
• Teachers noticed significant behavioral changes with
respect to core values
9. Impact Overall
• 8% of active students
have achieved our highest
life skills designation and
can shoot 55 or better for
9 holes
• 32 of our students can
shoot 90 or less and have
mastered goal setting and
conflict resolution skills
• We have taught 3500
children self-management
life skills and golf.
