Aspire 2012 Training Camp

Overview <ul><li>December 2006: Aspire/Army agrees to examine potential benefits for Aldershot Garrison from the London 2012 Olympics </li></ul><ul><li>January 2007: Informal consortium formed by Aspire, Army and Rushmoor to submit details to the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games application for pre-Olympic training camps </li></ul><ul><li>June 2007: Aspire engages consultants to assist in this process and focus on training camp usage </li></ul><ul><li>July 16 th 2007: BOA makes an informal and confidential visit to consider whether Aldershot should be added to its shortlist of 3 of the UK’s top sports facilities </li></ul><ul><li>September 21 st 2007: BOA make formal visit to Aldershot Garrison </li></ul><ul><li>November 7 th 2007: BOA offers “preferred bidder” status to Aldershot </li></ul><ul><li>November 15 th 2007: Follow-up meeting with the BOA to clarify usage </li></ul>

The BOA opportunity and the commitment required <ul><li>The BOA are proposing a unique partnership with the Army, Aspire and Rushmoor Council to deliver mutual benefit to all parties in the run up to the Olympic Games </li></ul><ul><li>The commitment required from Aldershot Garrison is to host the BOA’s pre-Olympic training camp in 2012 </li></ul><ul><li>Between 2008 and 2012: additional opportunities exist to extend the relationship to include additional usage by the BOA and National Governing bodies, in accordance with contract and subject to capacity. </li></ul>

Potential additional opportunities <ul><li>Up to 4 team leader and athlete conferences per year of between 35 and 100 people </li></ul><ul><li>Small summer (Jul – Aug) preparation camps in 2009 and 2010 with a larger preparation camp in 2011. Approximately 100 persons (maximum of 168) </li></ul><ul><li>Opportunity to attract National Governing Bodies of Sport (replicating the Synchronised Swimming model in one or more suitable sports at our discretion) </li></ul>

What are the likely benefits from hosting the BOA at Aldershot Garrison? <ul><li>Benefits for soldiers: </li></ul><ul><li>Early delivery of “Z Standard” living accommodation </li></ul><ul><li>Raising the bar for Army sports: Army sport training amongst Britain’s most famous sportsmen and women and providing sparring partners for British Olympic team sports e.g Boxing </li></ul><ul><li>Enhancing pride “Be the Best”: Proudly playing a central role in Britain’s Olympic sporting success </li></ul><ul><li>Potential improvements to Army Sports and other facilities as a result of the British Olympic Association team usage </li></ul><ul><li>Closer relationship for the Army Sports Control Board with the BOA </li></ul>
