The services provided in each community to each community include:antenatal care,delivery services,post natal care.
Concern about the high mortality and morbidity associated with pregnancy has led to the development of safe mother programmes,a global effort that aim to reduce death and illness among women and infants,especially in developing countries.specifically aimed at reducing maternal mortality,these programme are being developed in the wider context of health services for women’s reproductive health.
The programme tackle the clinical causes of maternal death-heamorrhage,obstructed labour,infection,eclampsia and complication of induced abortions through improvement in maternal services with special emphasis on emergency obstetric care.
The past few decade have withness major improvement in the health of children throughout the world.the child survival programme that unicef and who spearheaded have made significant contribution to the dramatic fall in child mortality rate in most developing countries.the main interventions are usually summarise under the acroymn,GOBI-FFF
i.e growth monitoring,oral dehydration,breast feeding,immunization,family planning,female education and suplimentary feeding of pregnany women.
To promote the health of children to ensure optimal growth and development both physical and mental To protect children from major hazards thru measures like immunization,chemoprophylaxis and dietary suppliment and improving the care of mother and family towards the child

The role of maternal and child health care according to USAID is to improving the health and well-being of children and families in the developing world.
For 40 years, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has helped children throughout the world grow into healthy, productive adults. Progress in child survival and disease control has long been, and remains, among the Agency’s major accomplishments. USAID-funded interventions – oral rehydration therapy (ORT) and zinc supplementation to treat diarrhea; basic immunizations for common ailments;
micronutrient supplementation to treat malnutrition; and more – save the lives of approximately 6 million children under 5 each year. USAID assistance is also instrumental in other areas of child and maternal health, such as the fight against HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.
Key interventions such as iron supplementation, malaria treatment, safe and clean delivery, and treatment of obstetric and newborn complications are improving the health outcomes uses. USAID’s approach to improving maternal health and the for mothers and infants around the world.Challenges range from infectious diseases to malnutrition to health services delivery by community health workers.
More than 75 million infants and children with pneumonia are taken each year for treatment by trained health workers. Malnutrition among children under age five has been reduced from one in three to one in four, a 25 percent reduction. The Polio Eradication Initiative has saved an estimated five million children from death or paralysis. Half a million children are estimated to be saved annually by micronutrient supplementation programs.
In alternative to breast feeding after weaning a child exclusively after 6 month.The kind of fomula introduced to the mother for child development must follow the rule of AFAS strategy. AFAS strategy shows that the fomula in this developing world should be Affodable,Feasible,Accessible,and sustainable.note that in HIV positive mother once the AFAS strategy starts for the fomula there is no room to re-introduce breast feeding again cos risk of infecting the child increase during the process.
