Finding information in the Library

  1. 1. Find a book or DVD using the Library Catalogue<br />Click on Library Catalogue from Moodle home page <br />PAGE 1 of 10<br />
  2. 2. Enter a search term<br />To search by keyword: Type a word – the computer will search the catalogue. This will only bring up items which have this word in the catalogue record. Try out different words<br />To search by author: Type the surname of the author in the search box.<br />To search by title: Type the full title in the seach box. If you don’t know the full title use keywords (see below)<br />To search by subject: Type the name of the subject, or the Dewey subject number from the printed Subject Index.<br />PAGE 2 of 10<br />

  4. 4. Using Guided Search:<br />1. Choose the Guided Search tab<br />2.Type in a search word<br />3.Choose from list of media e.g. DVD<br />4.Click on Search<br />PAGE 4 of 10<br />
  5. 5. Search using more than one word<br />Choose Advanced search<br />PAGE 5 of 10<br />
  6. 6. Advanced search<br />1. Type a search term on each line.<br />You can also choose the field and media to search in.<br />2. Add lines for extra words<br />3. Click on Search<br />PAGE 6 of 10<br />

Your search results<br />Click on Search to return to search screen<br />Click on arrow to see more results<br />This is the list summary view<br />Shows Dewey Classification number where book can be found on shelves.<br />To see detailed results double click on individual resource <br />Shows Location, Loan type and availability<br />PAGE 7 of 10<br />
  8. 8. Detailed Results<br />Imprint<br />Check the date – is it a recent publication?<br />Medium<br />This could be Book, e-book, DVD, Journal, Map etc<br />Class. This is the Dewey Class Number where the item can be found on the shelves<br />Loan type-This may be Standard loan, Reference, Overnight loan etc.<br />Location This will tell you where the item is shelved <br />Status Whether the item is Available or On Loan <br />Due date When the item is due backif on loan<br />PAGE 8 of 10<br />
