Canada is the second largest country in the world located north of the United States. It has Ottawa as its capital and Toronto as its largest city. Canada has more lakes than any country and contains more fresh water due to its large size. French settlers arrived in Quebec in the 17th century and British loyalists migrated to Canada, especially New Brunswick, after the American Revolutionary War. Hockey is Canada's national winter sport and the most popular sport in the country. Canada peacefully gained independence from Britain through agreements and has two official languages of English and French.

After the War of 1812 many of the Scottish and Irish was encouraged to migrate to Canada.

Canada is also one of the largest producer of zinc and uranium The Canadian Government has publicly funded health care, higher taxation, capital punishment is outlawed, effort for the elimination of poverty, and allowing same-sex marriages. It’s completely different than the United States. The Government in Canada is under a Constitutional Monarchy and Federal Parliamentary Democracy.

10. History Nova Scotia was under British rule with the Treaty of Utrecht. Canada did not fight a war for independence like other countries such as the United States but instead declared independence after an agreement with the British Government. Colonized by trappers and settlers from Great Britain and France. After the Seven Years War ended there was the signing called the Treaty of Paris 1763 where France ceded almost all of its territory. Around the time the French Canadians outnumbered the British Canadians. Around 1781 numbers of British loyalist (Tories)from the U.S. Revolutionary war refuge over to Canada which brought a large number of English Speaking people.

11. History The British passed the Quebec Act of 1774 which expanded Quebec territory to the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley which helped start the American Revolutionary War. Because of the growth of English speaking Canadians the Constitution Act 1791 divided the province into Lower Canada (Quebec) and Upper Canada (Ontario) and each had their own legislative assembly.
