Choose a shade of white light that works best for you and the task at hand. The color rating is marked on the package. Suppliers usually mark them as soft, bright or daylight. Information is generally displayed with the bulbs regarding recommended color for the required task. You should test a small sample of all bulbs for acceptability in the home before making any major purchases. Many types may not be available except at very large box stores.
After making decisions on the application/task and color, find an Energy Star labeled qualified bulb that provides the right amount of light output in lumens. You may choose to start with the bulb marked as equivalent wattage to the bulb in your existing fixture. The objective is to have the right amount of light provided by the lowest lumen or equivalent wattage bulb available.
Our country begins phasing out incandescent light bulbs in 2012 per the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act.
How Do I Dispose of Bulbs?
CFL’s must be disposed of properly since they do contain a miniscule amount of mercury. Check with your local waste management company for disposal guidelines or www.lamprecycle.org and www.epa.gov/cfl/cflcleanup.html

What Are Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs?
Compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs are made in special types and sizes to fit
in standard household light sockets. They combine the energy efficiency of fluorescent
lighting and the convenience and popularity of standard incandescent lighting. As replacements for incandescent light bulbs, CFL’s use up to 75% less energy and have a rated life of more than 10,000 hours. How Do I Select the Proper Bulb?
You must select the type of bulb appropriate for your specific application/ task e.g. standard lamp, dimmable, three way, interior flood, exterior flood, recessed can, ceiling fan, chandelier, bug, etc. They perform best in open fixtures with ample air flow like a standard lamp.
