  • Relationship between core & periphery countries
    • Assessing the level of development of a country
    • Using indicators like:
      • Employment structure
      • Literacy rate etc
    • Human Development Index (HDI)-used by United Nation Development Programme
    • Economic well-being
      • Employment structure
        • Primary, secondary or tertiary industries
    • Health standard
      • Life expectancy
      • Infant mortality rate
    • Education standard
      • Literacy rate
  • Classification 0.800-1.000 0.500-0.799 0.499 and below HDI High Medium Low
    • Limitation of the HDI
      • It is accurate for DCs as compare to LDCs
      • In DCs, data can be collected easily as compare to the rural countryside of LDCs.
      • Some LDCs economy relies on informal trading, only estimates can be used to calculate the income of the people there.
      • Therefore the HDI does not provide a complete accurate assessment of the level of development.
