    • PhpMyAdmin is specially designed to handle the administration of MySQL, written in PHP, this software tool comes for free. It supports a large range of operations with MySQL. Some mostly used operations which are supported by UI are, managing database, tables, fields, relations, indexes, userd, permissions etc. And still you could directly execute any SQL statement.

  • 4. How to Install PhpMyAdmin
    • For installing PhpMyAdmin in Windows, you will first need to extract .zip file, and after renaming it with Phpmyadmin folder, open, and find the line, “$cfg[“PmaAbsoluteUri”] and change it for :$cfg[“PmaAbsoluteUri”]=”http://localhost/mysql/”;
    • It will also auto detect the proper value when the line gets changed to “TRUE”$cfg[“PmaAbsoluteUri_DisableWarning”]=False;
    • After this you must locate $cfg[“Server”][$i][ ] series of lines.After that, below given lines are identical.
    • $cfg['Servers'][$i]['host'] = 'localhost';
    • $cfg['Servers'][$i]['connect_type'] = 'tcp';
    • $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'config';
    • $cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root';
    • The open source has been already installed in the web server root folder, so to find it out, open httpd.conf: and follow the things given below.
    • Alias /mysql/ "C:/SimplePHP/phpmyadmin/"
    • <folder &quot;C:/SimplePHP/phpmyadmin/&quot;>
    • AllowOverride None
    • Order deny,allow
    • Deny from all
    • Allow from

    • And, now you are ready to access it.
  • 5. Install PhpMyAdmin in Mac OS X
    • First download PhpMyAdmin, when the process of downloading completed, you can extract the download ZIP.
    • After extracting it, rename ZIP content to “PhpMyAdmin” which will look like,Macintosh HD/Users/your_user_name/Sites/phpmyadmin/
    • Now, using finder, find out the above folder.
    • Now, rename the '' to ''.And edit the file by using the text editor in line no.18:$cfg['blowfish_secret'] = ''; /* YOU MUST FILL IN THIS FOR COOKIE AUTH! */
    • Some more changes will be required in the text between the quotes like: $cfg['blowfish_secret'] = 'my_blowfish_secret'; /* YOU MUST FILL IN THIS FOR COOKIE AUTH! */
    • Now save the file, and by using the web browser enter 'http://localhost/~your_user_name/phpmyadmin/'. (without quotes)
    • Set the user name and password for authentication and start managing the database directly.
  • 6. Install PhpMyAdmin on Linux
    • First of all, make sure that PHP 5 or above, MySQL 5 or above and Apache is installed in your operating system. And, now, do the followings :-
    • Download and install the PhpMyAdmin in Apache Document Root: grep DocumentRoot /usr/local/apache2/conf/httpd.confDocumentRoot /usr/local/apache2/htdocs
    • Now download the latest version of this open source current version 3.3.7 cd /usr/local/apache2/htdocstar xvfz phpMyAdmin-3.3.7-all-languages.tar.gzmv phpMyAdmin-3.3.7-all-languages phpmyadmin
    • Now Create phpmy Unix user:add user phpmy and password phpmy
    • Now check which user and group is being used by Apache egrep 'User|Group' /usr/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf User daemonGroup daemon
    • Now the important thing is to modify the phpmyadmin directory's user ownership to phpmy user cd /usr/local/apache2/htdocs chown -R phpmy.daemon phpmyadmin/
    • Then updtae the phpMyAdmin as discussed below:cd /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/phpmyadmin/mkdir configchmod o+rw config cp config/ chmod o+w config/
    • Now, launch PhpMyAdmin.
  • 7. Common Errors of PhpMyAdmin
    • Some of the common errors messages of PhpMyAdmin, you will find are :-
    • Cannot start session.
    • Function.session-write-close error.
    • Invalid arguement supplied for foreeach() error.
    • All these errors could be solved out with the help of uninstalling the tool and then reinstalling it. Because sometimes, installation are being done in wrong manner which leads to getting these errors. So, without being hesitated, just uninstall it and make the fresh installation of the tool.
