Texas is the top state for doing business, as measured by 10 categories of competitiveness, according to a CNBC study released earlier this year. The state has captured the first or second spot in the survey each year since 2007. The study focused on such categories as the cost of doing business, workforce, economy, education, and quality of life. Other categories include infrastructure and transportation, technology and innovation, business friendliness, and access to capital. Within the state itself, the city of Austin continues to show impressive gains in its efforts to attract investment and business. The city and the state boast an economic climate that includes no state personal income tax and no corporate income tax. Furthermore, Austin puts forth strong efforts in strengthening its high-tech sector. With a highly educated workforce, nearly one third of the city’s workers are in the high-tech sector.
