LinkedIn <ul><li>More than 60 million users worldwide, 1/2 from the United States </li></ul><ul><li>There are four types of LinkedIn users: savvy networkers, senior executives, late adopters, & exploring options. </li></ul><ul><li>LinkedIn also allows users to research companies with which they may be interested in working </li></ul>

Blogging <ul><li>77% of Internet users read blogs </li></ul><ul><li>38% of bloggers post brand or product reviews </li></ul><ul><li>15% of bloggers spend 10 or more hours each week blogging </li></ul><ul><li>56% say that their blog has helped their company establish a positioning as a thought leader within the industry </li></ul>

YouTube <ul><li>Every minute, 24 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube </li></ul><ul><li>User base is 18-55 years old, divided evenly between males & females </li></ul><ul><li>51% of users go to YouTube weekly or more often, and 52% of 18-34 year-olds share videos often with friends and colleagues </li></ul>
  9. 11. flickr <ul><li>Flickr now hosts more than 4 billion images </li></ul><ul><li>Key features include tags, marking photos as favorites, group photo pools, and interestingness </li></ul><ul><li>Widely used by bloggers to host images that they embed in blogs and social media </li></ul>

So What? <ul><li>We’re in a hyper competitive marketplace with no growth in # of consumers buying </li></ul><ul><li>Traditional marketing strategies are no longer working </li></ul><ul><li>Consumer buying patterns have changed: using internet first for queries </li></ul><ul><li>We no longer search for the news, the news finds us </li></ul><ul><li>We're at the beginning of a Social Media Revolution </li></ul>

Tips <ul><li>A blog should be the ‘hub’ of your social media efforts </li></ul><ul><li>Be consistent and post quality content (don’t spam!) </li></ul><ul><li>Build community </li></ul><ul><li>Leverage your social network to get in-front of your audience </li></ul><ul><li>Build trust / be sincere </li></ul><ul><li>Offer free information / free “stuff” </li></ul>
