  • 2. What is a myth? A myth is a story that attempts to explain major events in the world. What is a myth? The main characters can include heroes along with gods or other creatures. 2
  • 3. What is a legend? What is a legend? It is a story usually based on a true event in the past. Over time, the story is handed down and may change to become sort of mythical. 3
  • 4. What is a legend? Legends usually have a real hero at the center of the story and are often set in fantastic places. What is a Folk Tale? 4
  • 5. What is a Folk Tale? A folk tale is a story with no known author. Folk tales are passed down from one generation to another by word of mouth. What is a Folk Tale? There are often many versions of the same tale. The main characters in folk tales are often animals. 5
  • 6. What is a fairy tale? A fairy tale takes the reader into an invented world where the laws of nature as we know them do not operate. What is a fairy tale? They are usually written for children and may include fairies, giants, dragons, elves, goblins, dwarves, etc. 6
