Saul's Glass Ceilings

Fear

He offered an illegal sacrifice when he should have patiently waited on Samuel 7 And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. 8 And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. 9 And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering. 10 And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. 1 Sam. 13:7-14 Impatience

And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash; 12 Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering. 13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. 14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.

Saul's Glass Ceilings Anger 1 Sam. 19:10-12 10 And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin: but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night. 11 Saul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain. 12 So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.
David’s Glass Ceiling His Family David's family seems to always be standing in his way. When Samuel came to anoint David as king, they didn't even call David, Sam. 16:1-13 . When he voiced his desire to defeat Goliath, his brother Eliab criticized him before all the soldiers of Israel – 1 Sam. 17:28-29 . 28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. 29 And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

When he voiced his desire to defeat Goliath, his brother Eliab criticized him before all the soldiers of Israel – 1 Sam. 17:28-29 . 28 Narinig pala ni Eliab ang kanilang pag-uusap at ito'y nagalit kay David. "Ano bang ginagawa mo rito?" pagalit niyang tanong. "Iilan-ilan na ang ating tupa'y iniwan mo pa? Alam ko kung bakit ka naparito. Hindi ka nasisiyahan na magpastol lang ng tupa, ibig mong manood ng labanan." 29 Sumagot si David, "Bakit, ano ba ang ginawa ko? Nagtatanong lang naman ako."
David’s Glass Ceiling His Family The one man, Saul, who should have been leading David into battle, was also a critic when David stood up to serve the Lord, 1 Sam. 17:33 . He even tried to sabotage David's efforts by giving David his own heavy armor to wear. Throughout their relationship, Saul often tried to kill David. 33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
David’s Glass Ceiling His Family David was a descendant of a poor, shepherding family. He did not come from power, wealth, prominence or royalty. He was a nobody among the thousands of Israel. His Leadership His Background
David’s Glass Ceiling His Family Over and over David was disrespected and underestimated by all those around him. ( Note : This was the same experience that Timothy had years later - 1 Tim. 4:12 .) His Leadership His Background His Youth and Inexperience 12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Operate By Faith And Not By Sight 1 Sam. 17:4-11; 47 . That is the call to all God's children in all ages, GOLIATH 47 At makikita ng lahat na narito na makapagliligtas si Yahweh kahit walang tabak at sibat. Siya'y makapangyarihan at ipalulupig niya kayo sa amin." 47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands.
Operate By Faith And Not By Sight Rom. 1:17 . Don't look at the size of the obstacle, look at the size of the God Who overcomes the obstacles! Ayon sa nasusulat, "Ang pinawalang-sala sa pamamagitan ng pananampalataya ay mabubuhay." 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Realize That God Did Not Call You Just To Let You Bang Your Head Against A Glass Ceiling David had already been anointed to be the king of Israel. If he was to succeed in that office, it would only happen by the grace of God. He succeeded because God was with him! He is with you too as you attack your " glass ceilings ", Heb. 13:5 . 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Sapagkat sinabi ng Diyos, "Hindi kita iiwan ni pababayaan man."
Glass Ceilings Can Be Shattered Only By The Power Of God When David faced all the obstacles of his life, he overcame every one of them by the power of God! He defeated Goliath, he saw the defeat of Saul, he overcame the problems of his family, of his background and of his youth and experience by walking, not in his own strength, but in the power of God. This is what God wants us all to do, Eph. 6:10 . 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Glass Ceilings Can Be Shattered Only By The Power Of God This is how " glass ceilings " are shattered - 2 Cor. 10:3-5; 1 John 5:4 . 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
Hebrews 4:12

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
