Some great food for (slow) thought

As a teacher who’s trying to 'build' community with students, I’ve been pondering how I might apply these ideas. Following this slideshow to your blog and wiki, I noted there was a comment from Lion Kimbro, the guy who famously wrote a book entitled 'How to Make a Complete Map of Every Thought you Think'. Insofar as 'slow' means 'reflective', I suspect his work might be able to teach us a thing or two.

Thanks, etalbert - what are you thinking about slow community in your life?

I like the simplicity of this show and the power of the main graphic. It is a concept worthy of thought.

Hi Victoria - yeah, this is related to the ambient intimacy - and all these things that are converging to possibly overwhelm us and change our world. Both. Not one or the other. I blogged about it more today on http://www.fullcirc.com

    Nancy,

Masterful, you have again touched a timely chord (no pun intended)- like the nod to the slow food movement as well. Given Jenny Ambrozek’s latest post at AppGap on 'ambient intimacy' http://www.theappgap.com/from-leo-to-ambient-intimacy-honouring-david-caminer.html or what I call 'fractured identity' the timing is perfect.

Has the abundance of choice, the speed with which commercial ventures have yet again jumped on to the “community” bandwagon anesthetized us to what “being together” as a community really is in our lives? http://www.fullcirc.com/wp/2008/04/14/a-slow-community-movement/

    • Reflection
    • Sustainability
    • Creativity
    • Inclusivity
  19.
    • creates time for connection and relationship
    • is present and aware ... stops and " notices " what is actually happening in the moment
    • takes time for reflection and self awareness (individual and community)
    • NOT too future focused ( because its unpredictable anyway )
    • looks backward to learn from mistakes and successes
    A community that…
    • Is it less , or slower? Simpler , or simply slower?
    • Is there something here about left brain/right brain shifts or integration ?
