  2. 2. Oh you’re a chiropractor? <ul><li>They’ll attempt to “stand straight” which last about 30 seconds. </li></ul><ul><li>Once there mind wanders they’ll slouch again. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Posture Problems <ul><li>Part of the problem is that posture is mostly </li></ul><ul><li>unconscious. We can focus on and be </li></ul><ul><li>conscious of our posture for a few minutes </li></ul><ul><li>at best, but the vast majority of our waking </li></ul><ul><li>hours are spent thinking about things other </li></ul><ul><li>than our posture. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Posture Problems <ul><li>If you think you are </li></ul><ul><li>standing straight, with </li></ul><ul><li>good posture are you </li></ul><ul><li>really? </li></ul>

Posture Consciousness <ul><li>Have a friend take your picture of your posture or </li></ul><ul><li>Stand straight in front of a mirror with your eyes closed and then without moving open them. </li></ul><ul><li>Observe what is level, what is not, and what is different from one side to the other. </li></ul>

Wrong vs. Strong Posture <ul><li>If you are standing up you are balanced. </li></ul><ul><li>How well you balance is a different question. </li></ul><ul><li>Posture is how well you balance your body. </li></ul><ul><li>The goal for a strong posture is to achieve the best biomechanical alignment of the body where all the muscles and joints are ideally aligned to work as well as possible while stressing the body the least. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Weak Posture <ul><li>Weakly balanced posture requires more energy to stay upright, resulting in mechanical stress and premature joint wear (arthritis). </li></ul><ul><li>Posture is more than just standing straight and keeping your shoulders back. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Strong Posture <ul><li>Improving posture </li></ul><ul><li>means strengthening </li></ul><ul><li>how the body balances </li></ul><ul><li>and how it moves. </li></ul>
  9. 9. A Simple Balance Test <ul><li>Stand on one foot for 30 seconds. </li></ul><ul><li>If you can’t balance or you flail around your internal perception doesn’t agree with true reality. </li></ul><ul><li>What this means is your motion isn’t symmetrical. </li></ul>

Retrain Your Body <ul><li>By strengthening your posture </li></ul><ul><li>with 10 minutes a day of </li></ul><ul><li>posture exercises, along with </li></ul><ul><li>regular chiropractic care: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>You can stand taller </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Have less pain </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Age better </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Stay active better </li></ul></ul>
