  3. 3. Guidelines and Requirements • Class projects will consist of building your own full-featured website • Requirements: o Home page o Sublevel pages o Web Form o Navigation o Images o Content
  4. 4. Ideas • You must pick a topic or subject of focus for your final project website • A good idea would be to create your own online zine, or webzine: o ATA Webzine o Stretcher Magazine o Shotgun Review 4

Strategy Let’s think about Strategy to help us understand what we want to learn during research. • Marketing Research o Is there a viable market for my product or service? o Where are the best markets? • User Research o How do users use my product or service? o Why do they use it? o What are my users’ goals? 7

Research & Discovery During the Research & Discover phase we want to learn about our the product or service and learn about our users’ goals • Let’s ask a few questions to help us think about this: o Who/What? o How much? o Where? o When? o How? o Why?   9. 9. Creative Brief One page that describes: • Project summary • Goals and mission of the site • Primary audience • Site features

User Research • We must determine the characteristics and behaviors of our users • Observing how users behave, what their habits are, and what their goals are in terms of our product or service will give us a lot of insight into the design. o This is referred to as Ethnographic Research. • Ethnographic Research is normally conducted by living with your subjects of study and observing their daily lives. However, we can conduct this type of research by interviewing users to get (roughly) the same information. 10
  11. 11. User Personas • Used to synthesize and document what was learned during user research • Fictitious person who represents a distinct group of users • A tool for designers to empathize with users 11
  12. 12. Homework due Oct 6 • Write a Creative Brief • Conduct User Research by interviewing at least two people who would user your product or enjoy your service • Create a User Persona • Read the chapter "Page Design" in Web Style Guide
