  • 1. sappi Employee Wellbeing Committee World AIDS Day Working well together 25 November 2009 World AIDS Day Under the theme “I am responsible, We are responsible, South Africa is taking responsibility”, the 2009 World AIDS Day heralds a new era in the country’s collective effort in response to HIV and AIDS. The theme encourages everyone in South Africa – from individuals, communities, businesses and government – to take personal and collective responsibility to stop new HIV infections, provide care and support to those living with HIV and to ensure access to treatment for all people in need. The global theme this year is “Universal Access and Human Rights” as 2010 will be a milestone for the Millennium Development Goals, and aims to encourage a high level review of what has, and has not, been accomplished in achieving access for all to essential care by 2010. Sappi Braamfontein office will celebrate World Aids Day on 01 December 2009 by encouraging people to come to the clinic for Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT), so that they know their status. Senior Management will show their commitment to this event by being tested on this day. Sign a red card In the week beforehand, our new peer group educators will be standing in reception with red cards. You are encouraged to take a card and sign it, write a personal message and place the card in the box provided. On 01 December, we will make a paper ribbon with all your messages and signatures and hang it in reception. At the same time, we will be making a white ribbon, also with cards to celebrate 16 days of Activism against gender violence. Please take time to sign these cards as a show of solidarity in our efforts to bring attention to these very important causes!
