More about Sappi
Think about your favourite glossy magazine, the viscose shirt in your cupboard, your cell
phone screen. Think about the paper packaging your morning breakfast cereal or that
luxurious brand of cosmetics came in, the strong paper bag you pack your groceries in. Think
beverage labels and mould-resistant soap wrap. Think of these and you’re thinking Sappi, a
leading global producer of coated fine paper and chemical cellulose. The name ‘Sappi’ is
synonymous with quality and responsibility – underscored by independent certification of
environmental responsibility for its timber and pulp from the Forest Stewardship Council
(FSC) and the PEFC (PEFC); as well as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification for its
mills around the world. Headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa and listed on the JSE
Securities Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange, Sappi has manufacturing operations
on four continents, sales in over 100 countries and 16,400 employees worldwide. The group
has the capacity to produce 6.8 million tons of paper, 3.3 million tons of paper pulp and
800,000 tons of chemical cellulose annually.
