Introduction Indie pop or twee pop(USA) is a type of alternative rock music. It originated in the United Kingdom in the mid 1980s. Unlike Indie rock, Indie pop is more easy on the ear, not as noisy, and fairly angst-free. Indie meaning an independently owned business, while pop means popular. Indie pop is popular independent music.

Key Bands- The Smiths A English band, formed in Manchester in 1982. Band based on writing partnership of Morrissey (vocals) and Johnny Marr (guitar), the band also included Andy Rourke (bass) and Mike Joyce (drums). Critics called them the most important alternative rock band to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s.
