  2. 2. Introduction• The purpose of our questionnaire was to find the preferencesand opinions of our target audience, which was 15 to 25 yearolds of both genders, for the release of a new psychologicalhorror. We have targeted this age group because they aremost likely to attend the cinema and be interested in this kindof horror film.• Here, we have presented our findings visually by presentingour results onto graphs. We have split our results intocategories so that we can understand our audience betterwhich will help to influence our decisions when making ourtrailer.• By considering our audience feedback, we will know how toattract our target audience when we create our mediaproducts.
  3. 3. Audience Profile.• Here we can see that our audience is both male and femalewith an average age of 16 to 25 and are mostly from Harlowso this would be a key place to advertise our films as this iswhere our target audience is most likely to be.• They are likely to be a full time student but also be part timeemployed. This could suggest that they have some financialincome so they may be more likely to spend money on films.Male50%Female50%Gender024681012Under1616 - 20 21 - 25 26 - 30 31 - 35 36 - 40 41 - 49 50 +AgeFullTime20%PartTime20%PartTimeEmployed andstude…Employment Status051015Town of Residence

  5. 5. Film Viewing Habits• Our questionnaire found that our target audience are most likelyto view a film trailer using their computer perhaps using thefilms website or other multimedia websites such as YouTube. This would be the most suitable platform to release our traileron as this is where our trailer would get the most views from ourtarget audience.• Similarly, our results showed that our target audience were alsolikely to use a computer to watch a film therefore we will film inHD so that the audience has a higher quality on a computer andwill enjoy the film more. however the cinema is also a popularoption for our target audience as our previous results showed.0246810TV Cinema DVD/Blu-ray Computer PhonePreference for Viewing a FilmTrailer01234567Preferred platform forViewing a Film
  6. 6. Horror Film Preferences• To gain a better understanding of the type of psychologicalhorror film our target audience would be looking for, we askedthem to select two of their favourite psychological horrorfilms. We found that the Woman in Black and ParanormalActivity were most popular amongst our target audience asthese are modern films which the audience have grown upwith so this is the style of film we will be aiming for.• Our findings also showed that our audience are looking foreither an intimidating or serious tone in our trailer and wouldmost like to see it set in a modern house.012345678910Favourite Psychological HorrorsSerious50%Intimidating50%Preferred LanguageStyleModernHouse75%Woods /Forest25%Preferred Setting for aHorror Film
  7. 7. • We asked our audience to select some cinematographyelements that they thought would be appropriate to use in ahorror film. The top three elements to use were extreme close-ups, point of view shots and jumpy or quick cuts so these areelements we will consider adding to our trailer.• Whispers were the most popular choice of sound althoughsilence was also a popular second choice. We will also considerthese results when making our film trailer as it will help toidentify it as a film of the horror genre.024681012Preferred CinematographyElements024681012Preferred Sounds for a HorrorFilm
  8. 8. Magazine Print Preferences• For our ancillary tasks, we have asked our audience theirpreferences on a selection of film magazine front covers andtheir reasons why.• Empire magazine received the most votes and when askedwhy, we found that the picture, colour and layout were allimportant factors to consider.Empire55%SFX20%Total Film25%Magazine Front CoverPreferencesText20%Picture25%Colour25%Layout25%Features5%Why?
  9. 9. Film Poster Print Preferences• We also questioned our audience about their preferences fora small selection of film posters.• Our results showed that The Woman in Black poster was mostpopular by far and this was due to the picture used. 10. 10. ConclusionTo conclude, our findings have shown that our target audience is bothmale and female aged between 16 to 25 and mainly students who havepart time jobs. This shows that our target audience do have a smallincome available to spend on films which not everyone would have. This issupported by our audience saying they spend mostly between £6 to £10on film consumption per month. From our results, our audience digitally download films more than goingto the cinema as this is a cheaper option so reflects our student audience. However, the cinema was also a popular choice so these will both beplatforms to consider when distributing our film. Similarly, for ourtrailer, our audience would be most likely to see this using a computerwhich is another factor will consider.
  11. 11. ProposalsFrom our results, in our trailer we propose to use a modern house for the setting asthis was the most popular choice of setting, this hopefully will be something that theconsumers can relate to and imagine themselves in the position of the character.Since this is a a horror trailer, a serious language style will be used as this is mostsuitable as well as be the most appealing to our audience. In relation to camerawork, we propose to use extreme close-ups, close-ups and pointof view shots as our audience suggest that by employing these conventions, otherconsumers will be able to identify the genre as horror since these are camera shotsstereotypical of horror. With editing, the shots will be edited in a quick, jumpy fashionas this was said to be successful for creating an increasingly tense atmosphere. Finally, with sound, alongside the incidental music we are planning to employ, soundeffects that appealed to the audience were whispers and silence as they felt thesewould be ideal for connoting the horror genre. For our first ancillary task of a magazine front cover, we found that the style ofEmpire’s: The Joker magazine front cover was most popular so we propose to usebold colours, and an eye-catching image as this will ensure our magazine is visuallyappealing and stand out amongst competitors. Also, the layout must be somethingcarefully planned with some saying it should be simple to that the cover does notbecome too distracting.Similarly, for our poster we have found that the image is the most important factor tomaking our poster attractive therefore we propose to use an image that is quiteshocking as this will make it more noticeable to an audience. Colours were also seento be an important factor where the colours are crucial for connoting the genre.
